I rather suspect that a lot of the anti meat guff being pushed out into media is coming from government via its ‘independent’ nudge unit (behavioural insights):
Laying the foundations for the removal of any livestock subsidies post-brexit by giving the impression to the general public that it’s harmful to the environment- why give public money to businesses that harm health and the environment?

Just had a quick scan of the pages that matter - 32 to 39 - and much to be positive about in there and quoted to the advantage of UK ag.

If you’re a beef a d sheep farmer?

like I say only scanned it, but saw much reference to increased self sufficiency as a means of ensuring food security, and at least one reference to meat playing an important part in a healthy diet.

I will keep saying this: The environmental movement is UK ag's greatest ally. Neither can achieve its objectives without the support of the other. There can be no hope of ensuring a 'sustainable' food system - whatever that is - without a profitable UK ag.

Oh bother, even HMG is at it now:

The Government has a responsibility to raise public awareness of its Eatwell Guide, identify ways to promote the consumption of healthy diets that are sustainably produced and ensure the public sector leads by example in reducing meat and dairy consumption.

Hmm helpfully glossing over the fact that 3 million people in the UK suffer from osteoporosis and 4 million people in the UK are anaemic with it being the most common nutritional disorder in the world. Responsible government from a bunch of self obsessed, pious, sanctimonious retards.
