Notice this sent out by The Welsh Assembly:- URGENT REQUEST from Vaughan Gething MS, Minister for Economy As you will be aware, Welsh Government is acting as a ‘super sponsor’ to enable Ukrainian Refugees to seek safe haven in Wales. To support this nation of sanctuary response we are working to identify and secure suitable venues for ‘Welcome Centres’ for those arriving under the scheme. The welcome centres will enable us to provide comfortable, safe places for individuals and family groups to arrive, engage with services and settle before being matched to a longer term accommodation offer. We are calling on partners in the industry to help us provide much needed sanctuary to people – including children - displaced by the war in Ukraine. We are seeking partners able to work in partnership with Welsh Government, Local Government, public services and the third sector to provide sanctuary. I attach below a summary of the type of venue and arrangement we are looking to secure. We do appreciate that there may be a need to be flexible on some of our asks but would highlight that exclusive use, or ability to have a very clearly defined separate area for our use is a key criteria. We appreciate that you are about to enter a busy time, after a long and difficult period. We need to think creatively; partnerships between hotels in a popular area to enable one or more to take guests displaced by another offering itself for use as a welcome centre or reorganisation to release a wing for use for example. If you would like further information or to discuss how you may be able to assist please contact us at UkraineResponse.Housing@gov.wales Accommodation requirements for ‘Welcome Centres’ Requirements for host venues Exclusive use ideally, or the ability to set aside specific areas, wings/floors, for exclusive use En-suite accommodation Provision of meals 3 times per day or ability to contract for catering provision Communal area(s) and/or office space to ensure activities, induction and on-site engagement can take place Wi-Fi Cleaning and linen services Capacity Ideally larger venues able to accommodate over 100 people but flexible on this point Location Looking for pan Wales locations Locations with public transport links are advantageous Locations close to health and other services also advantageous Contractual basis & service provision; Ideally a minimum 3 month contract but can be flexible Shorter term arrangements may be desirable if available at short notice Terms to be negotiated Accommodation provider to provide venue management, catering, cleaning but open to discussion if services need to be contracted in Wider support and health services will be provided via LA and health board links If you would like further information or to discuss how you may be able to assist please contact us at UkraineResponse.Housing@gov.wales
