We will be dipping the sheep on Monday. Should we turn them out to the field for a graze and to dry off. About 2 weeks away from lambing. Looks like it's goin to be wet anyway. Or can we put them back in the shed with plenty of straw. Don't want to stress them too much. Hydraulic ripper by the way

If it was me I would keep them out after dipping , until there is a break in the rain long enough to blow them off, .before housing..well, unless I guess a very open sided ( not open to the rain side:rolleyes:) shed was used....

but no,... Out, rather than in, I would say.

Probably better to turn them out for a few hours at least, if it’s dry, if only to save the bedding. I shouldn’t think there’d be much point if it’s pee’ing down though. It won’t kill them either way.

Thanks that was my gut thought. Bit of a difficult 1really. Coming off the roots on the wkend and in . Try and save the grass for lambing. Don't really want to leave them out long. The way the weather is they might be better off in

Same here. However, sometimes there hasn’t been any option and they don’t seem to have suffered from it. They do seem to take days to dry indoors though, where they’d have dried in a day outside.
My sheep shed is open one side, and the sheep go outside to eat silage, and sleep in the beginning when it's too full to fit them all in. Doesn't seem to have caused them any problems

I wondered that too. Why not dip in autumn at tupping. What is there to gain at this time of year.

May be they've just got something now that needs dipping to clear?

I haven't dipped in years, and don't intend to start as an Autumn routine. IF they get scab from a neighbour, then I will dip when they need it.
It's the routine treatments in the Autumn, which have continued over to giving everything Dectomax, that has led the charge in developing ML resistance in scab. :(

Dipped a bunch of ours last week becaus of lice, let them drain plenty long enough, put them straight back in the shed, didn't bother em to much, just put a good layer of straw underneath, but our sheds are open fronted and quite well ventilated.
