Barbados unfashionably far south only about 1m tall. No-till drilled 22nd August with buckwheat and berseem clover companions, no insecticides used. Not many plants have signs of CSFB larvae.
What seedbed fertilizer do people prefer to use with WOSR?
I am falling out of love with digestate to get OSR started. This year it will be straight forward N and FYMMost folk are using dap.
But digestate is better.

The drill that we use usually places some NPK blend, it’s very obvious if he runs out as the crop with fert is much stronger all winter. All the crops P & K is applied at this point.
The reason I’m asking is as follows;
In 2019, I tested the land and found K levels much lower than expected, I dismissed it as the rows where the seed & fert are placed are 30 cm apart and I thought that perhaps the soil auger was missing these zones.
This year, I’ve taken soil & leaf samples late (April) and again I’m getting low K. This is completely different land but it would normally have good K levels. I normally try to keep the land at high Indices and apply enough for crop uptake.
I’m wondering is the K getting leeched out over winter and therefore should I delay K application till spring (when in reality most of the K will actually be required).
Would DAP be a better bet?
Just to confirm you mean 125kg/ha of N, not product? I was thinking of going a bit higher than I have been, perhaps to 60kg/ha N, but I hadn't even considered in effect putting on 50%+ of the crop requirement at sowing.Vari rate P&K onto stubble sown with sumo trio with seed coulters on the back then 125kg/ha of N just as it’s germinating
I thought we were restricted to 30kgN/ha in the autumn ??Just to confirm you mean 125kg/ha of N, not product? I was thinking of going a bit higher than I have been, perhaps to 60kg/ha N, but I hadn't even considered in effect putting on 50%+ of the crop requirement at sowing.

So a bag an acre then125kg/ha of 34.5%N

Was thinking of using liquid digestate for the first time this year, what's the problem with it?I am falling out of love with digestate to get OSR started. This year it will be straight forward N and FYM
I was thinking of doing this, and hopefully use much less in the spring.Just to confirm you mean 125kg/ha of N, not product? I was thinking of going a bit higher than I have been, perhaps to 60kg/ha N, but I hadn't even considered in effect putting on 50%+ of the crop requirement at sowing.
Nothing. Bang it on at 40-50 cube and watch it grow. Was thinking of using liquid digestate for the first time this year, what's the problem with it?
I don't think it has responded as well as the good old bag of nitram in the seed bed, but if it is available I will use it but back up with seed bed NWas thinking of using liquid digestate for the first time this year, what's the problem with it?
Looks good. Any good OSR that I've seen was sown v early August, I drilled mine the 1st week of September for one reason or another and the whole lot failed. Perhaps sewage sludge is part of the answer.Funny old year!!
I was touch and go with this block of OSR and it's got a few patches in it but it's recovered so well, Sept 7th drilled and has very little larvae, VC cost is about £240/ha including the sludge, no fungicide spend this spring
I'm not expecting FW type yields but I sold a good chunk of it before values dropped and I'm sure it will beat my Winter Beans GM this year
Spring rape got away from the FB and is holding on in, but it's the lack of BLW herbicide options that's making it really unattractive ( and the pollen beetle onslaught is about to start ) it's OK but not something I'll be repeating!!
