I ask the above ,as in the UK thieves are targeting farm workshops, GPS units from self propelled machinery, farm vehicles , butchering sheep in fields, etc etc, vandals are doing will full damage, last night the set fire to a 8ha field of barley!!!!!!
If thieves in your country ever get caught and convicted for comiting any of the above crimes what pnishment might
they get??
In the uk there is no physical
punishment to put the fear of God in to criminals should they be caught and convicted.
I expect the above may be the same in your country but thought I would ask.
I have put this thread in Agricultural Matters in the hope it will be looked at more than if put on “Crime Line”forum. Thankyou.

Imprisonment is the ultimate response to crime here, and one of its purposes is to deprive the individual of freedom and privacy. It might be asked that with the reduction of privacy in society generally is prison losing further value as a deterrent?

In my country, there is little chance of being caught, a minimal chance of prosecution and even less chance of conviction & a meaningful sentence that would deter the perpetrators from doing it again, hence why the crime rate is soaring.

1 main factor in this is the lack of funding for our justice system.

Yet I know a retired policeman who is going on a jolly with current coppers fishing in ireland paid for from police budget, this is not the first time either

You run a chance of being caught, prosecuted and punished if your offence something petty, and you work for your living.

But if you are a long term unemployed repeat offender who is a waste if resources you'll get away with most things.

We chop there hands off in Scotland.

I know some one who lives near Paisley who used to be involved in some not very nice stuff now has a nice job, family etc.
Someone robbed his garage he phoned a couple of old friends and everything reappeared in his garage a couple of days later and the theif ended up in
hospital with his hands but in a serious mess.

What deterrent is prison ? it's just a place to increase your contact list and build networks.

Until we make prison a miserable, degrading experience that no-one wan'ts to repeat, it is not fit for purpose.

Basic food with sufficient nutrient to keep you alive, isolation, hard meaningless work and no TV, no parole etc, would very quickly see crime falling.

If all police cells full of drunks set a temperature of about 15 degrees, no bedding, no coffee/tea, maybe the idiots would not be so keen to get locked up.

Scandinavia has one of the lowest percentage of reoffending (29%) and it's prisons are the opposite of this.

Deterrents don't really work.
