How bad is this engine?

Isuzu 6 cylinder engine. Blowing a lot out the breather and a bit oily around there too. When I pulled the dipstick when running it was like it was bubbling in there but not blowing out into my face if you get me. Started first thing with 20 seconds of heat. Then after about 5 mins of running turned off and turned on again and started first thing.

Not smokey out the exhaust but just breathes a fierce amount.

Don't know the history of the engine but it's about 40 years old at this stage. Probably rebuilt at least once at this stage.
It's in a machine just wondering about the condition of said engine would ye thiink

I would have thought the blowback would be past the pistons...worn rings and bores..

If its starting easy then head gasket

But that would pressurise the radiator and header tank surely and or make white smoke from the exhaust?

What’s the oil in the sump look like after it’s been running, milky white?

No whiteness anywhere just a dirty black

If you can start it easily enough, performs ok, and doesn't use an excessive amount of engine oil....then it not so bad.

I meant to add that the oil pressure according to clock was very good. It was blowing very heavy though. I wonder would hard work be the making or finish of the engine?

Not if its blown to an oilway

The engine is in an old industrial loader.

It will be down on compression but could go for years yet.

Had an international engine with worn rings started easy with decent battery.

some engines will still start well amazingly enough with crap compression I think it to do with timing

Drive the bloody thing until it stops.

It's an old diesel, of course it's going to breath a bit.
