German dairy farmers who are members of Arla are working with other Arla farmers in the U.K. ,Denmark and Sweden. Our large factory in Ponsfeld, Germany is mainly used for exporting its production outside of the EU due to the relatively poor prices achievable from the German domestic market. I believe that the problem for dairy prices in Germany is due to the supermarkets re tendering every 6 months making it difficult to build long term relationships.

What would be the best agricultural way, how hand in hand, UK farmers and German farmers work together for being stronger in other markets?

The UK currently relies on many German manufacturers to supply some excellent products that have advanced farming.

I would like to see a lot of more of the research carried out by Michael Horsch and Co. He has his annual field days in Germany on the company farms; and while hosting us UK farmers would be a bit expensive, I'd happily fly myself over to attend if he was to do an english language version.
I heard him give a talk at Peterborough in the UK a few years back, and he was very good, forward thinking and looking at ag from a different perspective to most.

In fact I'd go on to say that exchange visits would benefit both countries. The Claas factory visits for example are fascinating, and give UK farmers a bit of time to look at German farming, the landscape and enterprises. More of this please!

It is hard to do now that we are outside the EU. We have much in common but with so many trade barriers in the way as Brussels tries to punish us for leaving I can't see a practical solution yet.

Perhaps we should have been more friendly with the Kaiser - then we might have avoided 2 world wars... Our Queen is a Saxe-Coburg after all.

I was just being facetious - I doubt we would have avoided a major European war if we had chosen our allies differently, though history books would be very different indeed. No Hitler for a start, though no doubt the victors would have created a power vacuum elsewhere that allowed a dictator like him to flourish.
