how do I get Case hydraulics to pump continuously

so on a Case Farmall 95 C each spool valve has Raise, Neutral, Lower and Float positions.

if I want to pump continuously for say hedgecutter rams, how can i do this?
if I tie the lever in a pumping position, will it just cook the oil?
if I tie the lever in a pumping position, reduce the flow rate and return the oil through a freeflow return, would it still cook the oil?

thanks

No you wont cook the oil ,,its no different to running a tatty harvester thats requires constant oil flow ,,your second method of returning the oil through a free flow works perfectly well .

They usually have a little latch, or something you pull over to lock the spool in flow. Free flow return is best. No need to lower the flow unless it's too much for what you are running. For example in the summer our wrapper can be running off a spool for 6+ hours a day

Do they have the plastic barrel thingys round the spool levers the same as the MX?

If so you turn them so as the spool lever can only do lower & float, then put the hoses in the other way round that you would normally.

On my new to me JXU no.1 spool has no detent whilst no. 2 has the detent on the spool but doesn't hold so using string to hold the spool engaged just like the 785 which preceded it. However on some you can select single acting by climbing under the tractor and adjusting a set screw which should reduce back pressure and lock detent better.
