How far off is harvest?

Snap, after going too early one year and suffering the indignity of some red seed, I go late and it's been fine, I reckon I may get into some 10 days time, still very green here.

If your are farm saving seed don’t go too early. Got ours tested one year hoping to save seed. Tested at 11% germination!!!

Sprayed off some barley last night but some others will be cutting mid week and they are decent crops. Got first OSR to spray on tuesday and more end of week. Probably 10 - 14 days earlier than usual..

Does anyone use diquat? Just thinking but it gives you the option to leave it to ripen naturally and if things don't go to plan you could go through a couple of days before the combine to even it up.

Yes, but only for farm saved seed areas. Timings are a few days later than glyphosate so the risk of shelling out pods with the sprayer is higher unless you've plastered pod stick on earlier.

Harvest interval after diquat is 10 days but you must read the label. What you're suggesting re treating just before combining is illegal and wrong! The only viable option to even a crop up that late is to leave it longer to ripen naturally. If you're that impatient, glyphosate the whole lot off for an easy life!

Another week and should be good to go.Not going to be a golden year.

Heard yesterday that some Marris Otter had been cut in North Norfolk this week just gone. Feed barleys round this way will be ready in ten days or so if this weather continues. Sometimes a bit of rain helps the ripening process. Wheats still green and Rape is not ready for pod stick or glyfo yet.

I haven't used diquat for donkeys years so my mistake on the harvest interval. I thought it was 5 days, but haven't so much as seen a can let alone read an upto date label.

10 days doesn't make it any more useful than glypho so as you say the choices are glypho or let it ripen on it's own

Can't understand why farmers spend 10 months obsessed trying to keep the crop green as f**k to maximise photosynthesis and yields and then at the very earliest possibility want to get out and spray it off. Serious ants in their pants!!!!!

No offence, but with crops like oilseed rape it’s not as simple as that. Time is something you can’t create but is priceless. I’d rather not desiccate anything but a huge area of malting barley and quality wheat to cut means I can’t afford to wait another 2 weeks to cut it.
