I've replaced a few radios in my time but for some reason the last one I tried to do just wouldn't work. It was a john Deere one in a John Deere tractor and all the connections were correct and it should have just gone straight in. I tried several times and checked and rechecked the wiring but still nothing. I gave up but tried again a year later and it worked first time! Still don't know what was wrong. Not had any problems with it 5 years on.

Bought a used 2019 Massey 7720 last year . It has a Kenwood stereo. It always defaults to some random digital station when first switched on . Switch to a standard fm stored station and after about 10seconds goes back to digital for that station. Just can't get it to hold last station or standard fm . Suspect it's to do with auto isolator as date is always 1st Jan too. Stores channels but that's about it. It's plumbed into standard fuse box at correct spot in manual , so must just be how modern stereos are with fancy electrics .

Some radio connectors expect the permanent and switched lives to be the opposite way around from normal. Worth trying to swap them and see what happens?

That isn't fancy. That is lack of battery 12V feed to the head unit. It must only have ignition 12V.

String a new wire to the battery (or the nearest buzz bar) and give a 10A fuse as close to the voltage source as you can and it'll be sorted.
