Just read that University of Edinburgh have discovered a mutation that renders the vaccines pretty useless. 33 cases picked up in U.K. to date
This has been known for at least a week and probably up to three weeks. It is the South African variant and there is also a Brazilian variant, Kent variant and now a Bristol variant. There will be more to be sure.
The SA one is the most worrying because it is apparently fairly resistant to the AZ/Oxford vaccine, although the two others used in the UK so far seem to be more effective. In the test in SA, which was a very small study, it seems that the AZ/Oxford vaccine is only between 10 and 20% effective against that variant, but is suspected, but not known for certain that it will still prevent severe cases and hospitalisation for the vast majority. It is a fluid situation but the vaccine designers are already working on second generation products with this type of variant very much in mind.

This looks serious if it's correct

Ha-ha. No, haven’t seen that bit yet.
But you are talking about our famously unbiased BBC Jeremy!

It does make you wonder though when we see what a cock up the EU have made about Covid Jabs and their considerations of trying to break their own agreement with us to catch up.

Surely, Life is the most important thing of all and the fact that we were able to beat our own 15,000,000 target by the middle of February is something to be extremely proud of, let alone the lives it will have already saved as a result.
The ability to buy and vaccinate solus was available to all EU countries. UK pandemic plan goes back to 2003 and as it was run by NHS and not one of the cabinets cronies it has been a success. Sweet fa to do with being out of eu.

That is a maybe, but I too live in hope.

As far as I can see, Boris's Bonfire of Red Tape, is a smouldering failure so far... And for export/import it'll get worse. And as Farmers we WILL be affected...
If you had all the same on your plate and Watch, then we all got to bear with it to be what it will.

I disagree.

Ursula VdL clearly stated that the EU were way behind us with regards getting the vaccine ordered as fast as they should have done. Then clearly attempted to muscle in on the UK's vaccine order manufactured within the EU.
Fortunately they came to their senses, realising that this would risk further damaging the Northern Ireland situation.

Whether it be the NHS, our Scientific advisors or as you put it "our cabinet cronies", one or all of them got it right for the UK and this has saved more lives that if we had still been part of the EU!

Perhaps it is not just some remoaners, but the EU themselves that are still acting like sore losers!

How many of us all have or will have relatives that survived the Covid 19 crisis because we did better than the EU?

Off topic but replying to your vaccine point. My mum is 87, she hadn’t left her house from March 20 until January 21. Then she had the vaccine, a couple of weeks later she is all, over the shop as she feels safe now. As I understand it, the jury is still out whether a vaccinated person can be a spreader, so on that basis, thanks to the vaccination, my mum is now a potential “super spreader”. Well now, if you can vaccinate the whole country in a week, i suppose that isn’t a problem, but even the RS Britain is going to take some months to do the job🤔

Yes. My mum is "I'm 84, you know!" and is mightily pleased to have had her vaccine too. She feels so much safer, therefore happier. Still being very careful though.

I've heard that those who are vaccinated can still carry and spread Covid, but that the risk in doing so is halved.
As it is more life threatening to the older generations, at least them having had the vaccine are now far less likely to die from it.

I, like you am a "Oh sh!t, I'm 60!", which according to our TFF creator on another thread is "Way past it and over the hill"
I still feel there is plenty of life in me yet and would like to say to @Clive "You'll be catching us up a feck sight sooner than you think".

I shall be getting my jab at the first opportunity they give me, just to make sure I live long enough till the day he catches us up!
