How is your 2017 linseed combining ?

Well I took the patient option and left my linseed in the field ,,,,, saw some being cut end of Sept and the combine was making a bit of a mess so left ours for ground conditions to improve , so we cut it last Wed and Sat , went very well , although yield was nothing to write home about three and a half trailer ( 12 ton ) fulls of 63 acres .
Fair bit of AMG in the bottom so sprayed off , triod and nearly finished drilling a 40 acre , gone in lovely

Well done on getting it in using the power of patience. Mine will be ready to put through the combine again at the end of the month but looks to be a ton per acre. Spent a nice day ploughing the straw in, but seeing how nice the land was after the subsoiler I was tempted to plant with wheat but am going to stick to the plan and follow with oats next spring.

A very respectable yield !!!!! ,,,, my 40 acre field was always going to disappoint , drilled to early ,,,, the other field which was planted 3 weeks later looked so much better , but still disappointed , still very little spent on the crop so not the total disaster once thought

Got ours combined eventually, but came in at 12-13%mc. Tried to dry it with our CF dryer, but if we got sufficient air flow it was sucked off the laterals and went out through the fan. So it has ended up going to a local store where they will probably crucify us with drying costs.
Linseed is a useful crop for us, but I am not sure I can put up with all the harvesting and handling issues.

Mine was very stripey with different germination dates caused by drought / poor farming. There were a fair few empty pods which were just too late filling before the glypho went on. Apart from the seed, the inputs were:

90kn N as some kind of liquid N,
A dinky SX herbicide for broad leaved weeds,
3/4 a litre of Teb,
One insecticide which I think was hallmark
4lt Roundup
3lt Reglone-a-like plus wetter.

I think it will pay. It does leave the soil in good order, and until I can figure out proper profit from grass it needs to stay in the rotation,

I was lucky ours came in at 8 % , we have the same drying issues , if it's wet then I have to ask neighbours to put it through their master drier ,
For the last couple of years Linseed has been our most profitable crop , I'd be a fool to pack in growing it off the back of one poor year

It's a bloody weed, looked good yielded sh!t, in fact I don't believe some of the yields I have been hearing on here.

I would rather set a aside and take the sub than bother growing it again.

Typical niche crop, there's a reason it's neiche

I think it plays a part in the reason why I have controllable BG whilst many around me are really struggling

I do too, although in-crop control is often a bit bobbins. I think that the very long delay between dessication and harvest, at a time when it can be *ahem* moist means that every plant which makes it through the crop sheds its seed and they all grow. If you harvest in October; spray the stubble growth with roundup; and then turn it round into wheat quick then thats like a very long, stale seedbed. Hopefully next year we will be able to go through it with a weed wiper.
