How late for linseed

I’ll have to take another photo at the end of the week after a few frosts.

It's -2 this morning here and white over. How is it looking today?

Yes, a frost here this morning.
I took this photo around midday.
Doesn’t look any different other than a bit of flea beetle damage.

I drilled my linseed yesterday. 70kg/ha Had to wait on some ends for the dust to clear so I could see the mark.
It better rain today !

That looks like quite an open seed trench. Do you run the plastic tabs for pushing the seed down into the trench? Much angle on the covering wheel? I doubt it would make much difference, I was just surprised to see how open it looked.

not a very representative picture really, was just a bit that was poking through, probably because the slot is a bit open there so seed not so deep

ground was like concrete when drilling

we don’t run the plastic tabs, use the firming wheel

Linseed's last chance here - switched from Empress to Bingo, drilled at 800 seeds with 1.5kg/ha AberAce clover. Inoculated with a bit of Gluconacetobacter diazotrophicus and AMFs I had lying around.
This was taken on the 30th, before the rains.

Yeah just all round a bit naff really. Dad was insistent on the early, short varieties like Empress but they just had no vigour when drilled on the green. Herbicide options are limited and damaging to the crop, particularly now Bromoxynil is gone.
Tried peas last year and even though it was a poor year for them I was impressed by the ground covering ability and ease of harvest. Residue is less of a problem, too. And I can establish a clover understorey with less issues, as the herbicides are compatible

IMHO unless in the south spring linseed the only variety requirement is early maturity

As an FYI, Crawler has been revoked- final use-up 30/11/2022. If you know you will need some for next season buy some nowish

Drilled three weeks ago, growing nicely now there’s some moisture. Not much sign of the clover that I put on the seed bed through the Stocks though.

I pulled the plug on drilling linseed 10 days ago as there was no moisture in the ground, then we had 7 mm of rain which was just enough to get the cultivators and drill to produce excellent seedbed. Time will tell tho as the early drilled crops around here have been raveged by flea beetle as the crops couldn't get away in the dry cold conditions

Same here now, my linseed is just coming through but nothing I can do as ground is to wet to travel. Hey ho at least we made the effort

just poking through drilled it with a companion crop of spring oats. only got a small area and never grown it before so dont really know what im doing.
