How late is acceptable?

im waiting for a farm assurance inspector to arrive, he was supposed to be here at 2pm, it's now 2.30.
When he's gone I've got about an hours work before milking , feeding and moving fence, I will probably be moving fence in dark at this rate

This is the same as when a lorry is meant to be picking up a load of grain. They never bother ringing to let you know that they are going to be late, but wouldn't like it if you kept them waiting!!
You should know by now that a farmer's time is worth nothing!!
Very soon on their phones if they turn up in the yard and there is nobody there to load them....

One thing I quickly learnt in farming is not to wait around for people who are late.
They should either be on time or let me know they are going to be late.
I will accept ten or fifteen minutes either side of time, but after that I go and get on with my work, they can either come and find me or go back home.
Same if someone answers their mobile phone without a quick request to take a brief call. If they start generally chatting to someone I walk off and do something else and I ain’t too bothered whether or not they can find me afterwards...

Might seem a little draconian but over the years you do harden up to time wasters. My time is important to me even if it doesn’t mean much to them.

I does my head in if I’m in a conversation and the other person starts just generally chatting on a phone call. It’s just downright rude.

I will ask if the other person minds me taking the call, then I tell the caller I will ring them back later.

Get on with your life & he'll/she'll have to fit in with it. Tell him that it's difficult when folk are late. Not in an angry way, just as it makes life difficult if folk can't keep to their promises. If an arrogant person this will go over his/her head & I'd then tell it like it is. They'll have to make another appointment at your convenience & that they should leave right now. Communication is key & there should be no excuse at all in this day of instant messaging. 'Sorry I'm running late' doesn't take that much time to say or write/text!

My policy when someone fails to turn up on time and has not called, is they can go boil their head... I don't load/unload much these days, but I will still tell transport managers that I need to be kept in the loop. If they cannot give a time I'll tell them to ask the driver to call me 30mins beforehand, and when someone jibs as still sometimes happens I remind them that my time is as valuable as their drivers.... Did he turn up?

Yes, shortly after I posted on here, perhaps he was reading TFF and realised he needed to pull his finger out.

How'd you get on?

Not too bad, a few minor non conformances that can be sorted in about an hour, just enough to show he'd been here.

He'll be gone by half 4 .... suits me .

Sooner than that actually, one of the quickest inspections I've ever had, perhaps he had a guilty conscious............or maybe he wanted to get finished. (y)

At one point I actually started keeping a record of how late the vet was to attend at pre arranged calls......... then I stopped being a grumpy bugger! They are actually quite punctual nowadays though.

I’m still a grumpy bugger actually come to think on it!
