50 years ago that's all you had
Yes, it's stayed remarkably on theme really compared to some threadsOut of a simple question about ploughing the replies have included such items of urinating , shorter dipsticks , church , deafness , horses , mathematic calculations and driftwood - this is the power of the forum -it makes you smile !
Yes, but I guess there were a few more hedgerows and hence it was a lot of smaller fields!!50 years ago that's all you had
Yes but vast numbers more and they were high tech then and didn't cost 1000 tonnes of wheat.50 years ago that's all you had
but the work still got done, and today we need 250+ hp 6furrow + variwidth , and they say that's progress for youYes, but I guess there were a few more hedgerows and hence it was a lot of smaller fields!!
And a ten ton tractor with another couple of ton of steel on front, and then wondering why there is so much compactionbut the work still got done, and today we need 250+ hp 6furrow + variwidth , and they say that's progress for you
and not really ploughing it, just making it black side up, then wonder where the weeds and black grass comes fromAnd a ten ton tractor with another couple of ton of steel on front, and then wondering why there is so much compaction
i drill every year with a 3m Fiona box drill on a massey 165, one year I did 100acre in 3 days, I had a red face from heat off the exhaust and plenty lipsill!!!Someone should take up the challenge and plough a 10 acre field with fergy tractor and plough .do your calculations then!

What were you hanging about for?i drill every year with a 3m Fiona box drill on a massey 165, one year I did 100acre in 3 days, I had a red face from heat off the exhaust and plenty lipsill!!!
20 acre is a long enough day, 25 if its only 2 fields I'm always filling up with seed at only 250kg! and getting off to do tramlines fro 21m!
I started on 2x 14inch furrows and have gone up in 1's to 5. Biggest jump (obviously in percentage) was from 2 to 3. 4wd at the same time was good though! I tell you it feels good. Kids these days don't know how lucky they are!

What tractor and plough is that?i can turnover 80 inches with a total gross weight of approx. 5.5 tonnes...that's tractor, plough and ballast....
anything round here that i cant plough with that outfit in good enough conditions isn't viable for sustainable arable cropping.
Go on then what is this outfit?i can turnover 80 inches with a total gross weight of approx. 5.5 tonnes...that's tractor, plough and ballast....
