how long should you leave a customer before you start legal action?
I’ve got two invoices I have started legal action, no doubt I will loose the annual work over it but I’ve had enough of this shyte.
Both outstanding from June, thinking I may have to adopt this strategy more often, invoice, then reminder, final reminder, then solicitors letter?
How long do others wait?

Have you spoken with them face to face ?

Depends how much the invoice is for. If its not a lot its not worth pursuing. Solicitors letters arent worth the paper they are written on. Small claims is the better option but depends how much as to whether its worth the effort. Easiest just to write it off and don't go there again.

Over my dead body. f**k them. I'm owed a small amount by one person but it's the actual point, most costs can be claimed back I think. It's not like I'm going to do more work for them so make life as difficult as possible, plus the satisfaction from that and telling anyone who'll listen.

How much do you call "not a lot"?
I have someone denying they owe me £20. I will get it in the end;)

5 nearly 6 months is taking the pee.. in any industry.

What did they say in the calls or emails?

I'm lucky in the respect I'm paid before I supply. There's only one 1 or 2 customers I watch. Say they've paid when they haven't and want the goods yesterday but it's only days and they're politely reminded. Their prices have gone up slightly as well.

These arnt farmers, just Range Rover driving land owner types. Cheques in the post, changed land agent, agent missed the payment, invoice needs re-wording, get my hedges cut aswell and have it all on one invoice, it will get paid by blah blah date.

That sort need keeping on top of @ARW imo, I had the same type a couple of months ago and only paid last week. Queried the invoice once I chased it aswell, clever feckers (n)

Had another chasing me for more work he owed me for a couple of months but I kept quiet because I didn't have time to go back, then he texts me earlier saying he's paid and can I help him out asap.

Just don't turn into my architect that threatened me with solicitors in the 14th day after invoice date, the job wasn't even completed and it had 14 days payment terms.

Yes materials supplied etc.
I’m not going wasting my time trying to catch them at home, they know they owe it, they have been warned with action, action will happen. Turning up at the door is a last resort on a wet morning, but for now I’m concentrating on the jobs that do pay and being on the job with the lads
id be making the call m8....
