How long would UK farmers last in the Outback ?

When I drove the outback with mates in the early 80s we carried a few tools, 2 spare wheels? 5 gal of spare fuel (had to improvise funnel) and 5 gal of water plus smaller containers.
You cannot cover every eventuality but we had to help out some natives of a similar age that had broken down with coolant and ATF loss after hitting a pig. They had absolutely zilch with them and were slightly panicky.
Would not want to get caught out in the GAFA.

Probably the odds would be only slightly less than Canada with its snow ,ice bears and worst of all cougars.....???

Wtf is an ice bear?

I had a year in various backwaters never visiting town. The highlight was a harvest season in NSW living either in a caravan or 4 of us in a 2 room shack with an outdoor toilet. If you can handle flies you will be fine. I was on my way back as I thought there were a lot more opportunities to get on. But stopped off in Africa and haven’t quite made it back yet.

An Aussie mate used to say
If you want to go to the outback take a Land Rover
If you want to come back take a land cruiser

I know an operator of a self driving back country safari business in NZ who won't take Range Rovers or Land Rovers as they break down too often during river crossings. Water in the electrics shuts down their electronic systems, usually mid stream, which requires winches and towing to get them out. This isn't easy when they are dead and still in gear. He has never had problems with anything Japanese or Korean.
My son's mate operates an outback self drive safari out of Rockhampton in Queensland. He says if the make is Toyota of any age or a more modern model of Isuzu, no problem. He has plenty of stories of broken vehicles of all other makes. The more expensive = the quicker they fall to bits.
Both operators run VX Landcruisers that have done big mileages leading these trips.

One of the most important things is to let people know where you are going & when you should reach your destination, so they know when & where to search if you don't arrive on time

This was the standard advice when I drove across the Nullarbor when it was 1700 miles of dirt, but I knew nobody so couldn't let anybody know. But I was ok.
I think the empty quarter in Saudi Arabia was just as scary even though I was working at the edge of it. Common sense and awareness of potential problems is good to have.

On a serious note, I often post and comment and the hardships and trials of farming on TFF and am amazed how different sectors and regions of the UK don't understand the difficulties each other face.
I then read with awe, the challenges that farmers face across the globe and have huge admiration for @Blaithin , @Farmer Roy et al .
Also, those in manflu corner.
I can't answer for any other farmer in the UK but I'm pretty sure I wouldn't last long outside my little corner of Devon.

Keep looking at all these vast farms for sale in Aus and think I could really do a great deal with that then sanity reigns in as I dont like hot climates and critters that either kill or annoy.
