How low would sfp have to go till you tell them to keep it and farm as you want

You might regret saying that one day. Sometimes we break rules without even realising it at the time. They penalise you whether the breach is accidental or deliberate. Been there, got the t shirt.
Well i hope not, the dent in the pride would hurt as much if not more than the one in the wallet if it happend.

just spent a few minutes on the back of an envelope and reckon for us with nearly 400 arable acres plus some pp if it is costing roughly £15/20 / acre in time, office costs, restricting cropping , rule following etc etc not to mention the stress ,

Where do you get the sum of 10k on 150 acres it's more like £3800 in a few years time
Where do you get the £3800 from ,i've lucked but carnt find that sort of reduction anywhere.I work it out £10650 for 150 acres this year but that was with a very poor exchange rate,i am sure it doesn't cost anywhere near that amount to comply with a few rules.

Not having to comply with the three crop rule and greening measures would definitely help. Trying to do off farm work now, but that time is limited by having two instead of one arable crop.

If I could grow just wheat on the arable one year then barley the next year rather than having to grow both in the same year, then it would greatly simplify my arable work, probably so much so that the time saved and spent on extra outside work would compensate for the loss of SFP.

There would be a bit of a gain in crop area as I wouldn't be leaving 2m from centre of hedge, which only harbours rubbish anyway.

As fair bit of time would be saved and there would be greater flexibility not having to have for example setaside land with awkward dates for exclusion of livestock, etc.

ok i will expand a bit, 12 acres of fallow ley means 35 t grain less to sell but similar costs 4000, extra cost of maintaining hedges and filling in gaps 500 ,time spent learning new rules reading assimilating missives from defra form filling record keeping to standard required lets say1hr minimum/wk 1000 cost of seed and cultivations to establish 20 acres of catch crop500 running total 6000 IE £15/AC and ive hardly started

I think BPS cross compliance affects arable farmers more than livestock farmers
I can't really see it makes much odds to the way we farm
I spose if it went down to 20-30 quid then plenty wouldn't bother but then they would lose there entitlements and there would be more money for those that do want to claim

That's the thing.
I would hate to think @gone up the hill was getting another penny an acre because I didn't want to claim.
I would rather claim and lose it than he got it. Lol.

I contract manage my landlords flock,we as graziers receive no SFP on our own business.
Anyway our landlord had an inspection a month ago,I keep all the records etc so carried out the said RPA inspection all good boxes ticked, then she says let's look at the last 3 years movement licenses,no problem says me!
Any way to cut a longer story short the inspector had on her print out a license which was actually to do with my business, bugger I thought bet I have put the wrong holding no on that license, but I go and get the said license,it is 100% correct my name my business.
The inspector reads it,photo copies it,BUT still says it is a cross compliance as she is not qualified to amend her print out,but we can appeal.
Fortunately common sense was found and 2 weeks later we get a letter to my landlord to say NO cross compliances,so the moral of the story we can make mistakes get fined, the RPA never make a mistake or are answerable to anyone!
