How many ewes in a 10ft trailer with decks

As @Al R says, consider the weight of your load. I can easily get 30 Dorset’s in my 12’ trailer, even with a poor design loading ramp, but that can often mean over 2 tonnes of mutton behind your towing vehicle.

Overloaded in both instances though :bag:
Yep and by a long way too. I had thought of getting a 14’ but I’ve got some seriously tight areas to navigate and I’ll still be overweight but at least when it’s on the tractor it’ll pull more, albeit still on a 50mm ball so still limited to 3500kg on the road I presume?

I have a 10 x 5 single deck trailer and it is a tight, but not desperately so, fit with 16 ewes (60-70kgs) or 20 fat lambs (45 kgs). So twice that number if twin decked. Weight should be OK on a 3.5 tonne trailer.

Trailer is plated to max 3,500kg - regardless what you tow it with

With ewes, it is way too easy to go over loaded :(

If you actually look closely at the 50mm ball you bolt through your clevis drawbar most of them have a 2000kg weight limit stamped on them!!! Therefore technically in the event of an accident you would be more legal behind an Audi A4!!

In fairness, I don't tow with the tractor using a ball so I couldn't comment on that area of it.

BUT, even if the ball was stamped rating it for 10t... the trailer is still only plated to a max gross 3,500kg

I know someone who quite happily took 8 10-11 month old calves at a time in a 14ft IW (wheels outside) to store sales every fortnight for a couple of months before he ever bothered to work out the gross weight.

Ah but is that nose weight?

Used to pull a 12ft wheels underneath Ifor that had an unladen weight ,with gates & decks of 1.3 t according to Ifor plus a bit for wet sawdust and stuck on mud , i carried 32 max empty bellied ewes @ circa 60kg behind a double cab pickup rated to pull 3.5 tonnes auction 90 miles away . Pulled in by POLICE & VOSA 3 times , twice empty so full inspection and once full so weighed axle's and said ok . Think they were mainly doing lorries but pulling stock trailers in ,heard later some were fined , used to be in a big lay-by down Loch lomond or at the bottom of the Rest
