How many horses reach the pto?

a rough guide would be under 10%, if the gearbox is in neutral there will be some loss at this stage but not heaps.

I'm finding that lately most seem to punch above their weight which isn't a bad thing.

be intresting had a few crank out better than listed others falling short most a tad short were cranked up

i'd also been keen to see what diffrence all the power sucking add ons pull the Hp down like fan ,A/C , lights , hydro pump under load
etc

being new once a few hours on it it may free up a tad ...

i'd also keep in mind some dynos are not to be trusted and may give poor or over high readings

All very well measuring horsepower at the PTO with the tractor being stationary, but would be interesting to test a tractor with a dyno on the PTO , with the wheels turning with resistance to show transmission losses in operation.
totaly agree sitting in the yard compared to in the field under load on a hot day a high hydro loading baler etc or air seeder on a power harrow etc etc could change the out come

i remember somebody told me on a ford 7740 with air con, all lights etc, turning steering took 9hp when on dyno

Expect and use a figure of 10% loss between engine and PTO with the air-con off. If there is a variable speed cooling fan, have it engaged with the engine up to operating temperature. The fan can take quite a few horses to turn on modern tractors.

Transmissions vary in efficiency more than PTO drives. Profi and OECD/Nebraska tests cover all of this.

kinda makes yer wonder if the flashing lights on top and there power drain is the reson the same tractors need to be chipped ...

don't know if the power loss on lights shows up at night tho cooler temp dencer air leading to better output
A/C cooling fan and high hydro loading would be the main power suckers
