Valtra transmissions have the gears out of a ford pinto in them... They are the smallest gears ive ever seen in an AG machine. Im sure they will be doing well out of warranty, unless the warranty gets kicked back and the customer ends up wearing it.

Valtra dealers can't make a living out of breakdowns.

Around us they are charging about £70 hr.
At 33 hrs that's 2,300 just for labour.

An Indipendent would be about £35 hr. But Deere will help up to 5,000 hrs. It seems Class will do a lot better than that.

I can't believe why lads pay £ 70 / hr , just refuse it , the mechanic is costing no more than £ 20 including tax , main dealers here are charging around €50 which is about £35 , cop on men you are paying almost the price of a ton of grain for a mechanic for an hour , how do you expect to stay in business , wake up.

Welcome to Eastern England, James!
What would happen if you all refused to pay it and threaten to change brands , this is real life business and this is just too much of a cost , can they explain why they have to charge so much , wages in general are higher in Ireland and our dealers are making money charging less , plus all the big dealers here are known to be very well off men. Some now have helicopters and youghts , there doing all right.

I have changed brands James. I have kept four older John Deere which are fairly cheap to run. The two newer tractors which do most of the work are another colour but they all have their issues.
As for the dealers business model they look after theirs, I look after mine. However, we are close enough to London that it effects every area of commerce. Most of the Ag dealers also have substantial construction and amenity departments.

Parts aren't cheap nowadays neither and engines are more complicated.
Not like whipping the head of your super major after tea!
Very true, all engines are more complicated due to reducing emissions, but Deere have got it seriously wrong in how they have gone about it using EGR/DPF only(I know this is changing now but they are still using EGR to do most of the work)where EVERYONE else is using mainly SCR enabling the fuel settings to be put back to their most efficient, treating the exhaust gases only.

The problem we are all suffering now is that all big companies are managed by accountants, for the benefit of the company's executives and then shareholders, in that order.
Before the 21st century they were run by talented practical engineers to benefit their customers.

How much a year do you think it cost to run a dealership?
Ive been told it costs a 3 depot multi franchise dealer over £17k daily just to have the doors open to service there customers...
Makes you sit down that mind....
Around £39/hr to cover operating costs before any profit as added on ie charging customers £50/55 an hr on invoices.
There no making any fortune, tho only good mark up they will have is the parts... but not the ones sitting in there store for months n years sometimes tho.

Do you leave them a tip when you pay them?

Every one is going the same way- most of the latest brands have dpf/egr/adblue. Google it.

And the use of the egr has dropped significantly.
