Ive just been out with a spade and in two holes one spit square, counted 20 and 39 respectively, is that a lot, a little or just average?
Plenty of wet here currently and most of them were in the turf rather than further down. Shallowish roots in the main, which Im not sure about, either plenty of Nutrients on the surface or hoof compaction. PP not been disturbed for at least 20 yrs.Pretty good, we tend to differentiate between large and juveniles where possible, gives you more of an idea what you could expect to see at the next count.
When it's wet you will find more by digging, when it is drier more will be deeper.
