How much compensation?

Western power had to go over some of our wheat over Christmas. As you can see they made a hell of a lot of mess, they kept digging holes to find the cable but kept missing.

It looks like one of the lads got abit bored at some point and went for a bit of a joy ride over the field!!

They are asking how much compensation we want! Any ideas??

Whenever I have needed to make a similar claim, I have measured area and worked out exactly the area of crop damaged the costs already spent and value of future loss, and time spent working it all out, sent bill in and been paid without any queries, these things are small amounts to the large companies, you may as well think of a (large !!) figure you are happy with, and send bill, they will pay as less hassle for them.

That's ridiculous!!! Why the hell have they driven across the middle like that? Are they really that thick? As already said get an agent in to look at it.

Say its £2000 and you get an agent it then becomes £3000 (fees added) and they know it, and would pay you £2500 without question.
I do a best guess, double it and see if they take it (always have done) with the comment that if they dont agree i will get a valuer.

Once asked for £100 for 15m2 of damage, chap says if your not using a valuer would £200 be ok!!

I had a similar job done last Thursday, 5 years into no-till. They are going to pay crop loss and to have the whole field ploughed and cultivated level to establish the next crop, grass, which would have otherwise been no-tilled. Make sure you include your management time as well, meetings, field walking.
