How much discount for a demonstrator?

I'd tend to agree. Can't say I've ever been bowled over by a demonstrator and thought. I've got change brand to buy one of them!

They actually take up a lot of time.
Remember we had a a demonstrator once and Dad said to the rep “you can send it, but unless you send something to go on the back we don’t want it”.
rep was keen so sent a tractor and plough and we ended up buying the plough!

I know a guy that did 2nd cut silage nearly entirely with demonstrator tractors and a handler. Took advantage of a new salesman.

He's no longer farming.
I know a guy like that took demos off every dealer he could for a few years to help sow up. In the end he had to buy one as the dealers got wise.

We demoed a 5130, bought it still got it, demoed a massey 5455 didd'nt buy it,
Demoed a mxu 110x line didd'nt like it
Demoed a second hand mxm, bought it kept it for 6 years.
Demoed a second hand 6480 for nearly a month bought it and absolutely love it.
Thats in my time the old fella once demoed one of the first maschios in the early 80s and bought it. Oh and he had a zetor 9111, 956xl 2wd, and a deutz dx90? On demo within a couple of weeks of each other, he bought the zetor.
Everything weve had has been with the intention to buy.
Futher to the op usually theres a bit of a discount on a machine but at the moment as lead times are so long i wouldnt hold ur breath to save a fortune.

A farm near here had a Fastrac on demo on the day the salesman was going in holiday for a fortnight. Three staff took turns doing 8 hour shifts on it so it was hauling straw 24 hours a day for the whole fortnight. Salesman not a happy bunny, especially when they didn't buy one anyway.
I know of one who has a bit of a reputation...will eventually run out of dealers....

Our salesman knows if I’m asking for a demo, there’s a high chance I’m going to buy it. Unless it seriously doesn’t impress me.

I don’t waste his time, and he knows this.

Demo’d a T7.210 in 2016, bought one.
Demo’d a pottinger mower combo, bought a front.

He put out triple Demos the following year and I bought the rear to match.

Demo’d a manitou in 2018, bought a new one.

Wanted a T5 dynamic command, couldn’t get a demo but he sent a T6 dynamic, bought the T5 without driving it.

Bought a new T7 last year with autocommand which was in dealers yard, it was largely the same as our trade in one, except autocommand, which I knew I wanted this time round anyways.

Have been offered a Massey recently on demo but having just changed tractors last year I said thanks but I don’t want to waste your time and have the tractor out until I’m ready to change.

We demoed the first ever jcb telehandler in Shropshire. In fact we were the first client to ever demo it. It never left our farm as dad bought it, and they were forced to get another demo machine to do the rounds

There’s a word for those type of farmers, and it rhymes with anchors

Old boss demoed a Manitou one spring and we put over 100 hours on it in ten days (they hadn't time to pick it up) while still using our own machine. Had a good catch up with jobs.

To be fair he did order a brand new one when they came and got it and has had them ever since.

Only ever had two tractor demo's, one a kubota, which was a nice tractor but not really suitable for our needs, the 2nd a NH with auto command, as I had never used the gearbox and wanted to try one, loved it and ordered a tractor after the demo.
TBH a demo is a pain in the arse as you have to keep changing implements, and inevitably your control boxes don't fit or the PTO is the wrong length!

Latest pain with a demo telehandler was that it had to run on derv. Manufacturer machine, not dealer. They said that was how the law was now, hard to know if that's the case, but certainly was a useful tool to stop overuse.

No harm but if i was offered a demo on those terms i wouldnt be taking it as the cherry is dear enough without havin to buy clear

Would you have known that the Kubota wasn't suitable if you hadn't demo'd it? No one admits it but I bet there's several tractors bought by people who have realized it was a mistake too late

I’ve had plenty of demo’s over the years, for various reasons I don’t think we’ve bought any of them.Bought plenty of kit from the dealers involved tho so I don’t feel guilty of wasting their time.Besides which it also takes up a lot of my time as well,as already been said extended lead times and cost of new kit will make availability of demonstraters much less.
