How much experience would I need in this industry ?

Hey everyone,
I hope this is ok to post (if not I'll remove). Just looking for some advice.
I have been offered a 5 month contract at a 400 size herd for calf rearing and just general cow maintenance. However I'm also at university but I want to leave if I can find a job. If I did take the contract it would take my total experience in dairy and beef farming up to 7-8 months. I've also done a month of arable farming and have 5+ years experience in equestrian.

Would any of you consider giving a full tine job to someone with this much experience? I don't want to risk leaving university early, and leaving my part time job if I don't have enough experience to get a full job afterwards.

Thanks in advance.
Fred

Personally I would finish university there’s plenty of jobs if your willing to work but this is probably your only chance/opportunity to finish uni.
Thanks for your reply.
I was thinking of leaving uni and not going back in second year cause its not specialising in any farming. But I will definitely take on your advice, thanks

What course are you doing.

If your keen and good you won't have a problem with a job.
Sounds with the job you've been offered there might be a chance to drop this year and start a course that suits your farming ideas better next year.
You will go further in ag with a degree it's not all feeding and shovelling sh!t.

Its an animal management foundation degree, but it's not really focused on agri, more just on dogs, cats etc.
Made a mistake with picking it but i will have a look at other courses.
Thanks

Yeah I've seen lots of work down cornwall and devon. There's some work up here but its trying to find people who are okay with my experience level

I would speak to your tutor and look at the possibility of changing coarse if that’s what you want to do. A lot of the time the modules are similar so I would think it wouldn't be a problem.
