Can someone help me. I need to order pea gravel for some drainage, I am putting 4 inch pipes in, 120 metres in length. Can anyone give me an idea how many ton of gravel I will need please?

Not sure yet on width, depends what digger driver brings in the way of buckets - as narrow as possible as am backfilling by hand! Pipes wont be very deep, 12 -18 inches but I am only putting gravel round them and 4 inches on top of pipe.
In theory, if you have a 300 mm wide trench, and use 150mm of gravel round and over your pipe you should do about 22m per cubic meter of gravel.
About 1.5 t per cubic meter, so 68 kg per meter. So just over 8 tonnes for your 120 m, but a small difference in width or depth will make a big difference to the quantity used.

Traditionally used 2 inch for drainage around here and fill to plough depth

40 mm gravel will be better than pea gravel. And unless filling to plow depth wasting your time putting 4 inch on pipe

We use one tonne per five to six metres of drain

Doing building work we normally put on drains in an 18 inch trench.building control like 4/6 inches of pea shingle all round pipe.this amount is often reduced though

Difference between doing field drains and yard drains. Assuming this is not field drain at 12 to 18 inches deep as wont last long will subsoiler let alone mole plough. Got 90m of 9inch pipe going in our yard. Got 20 tonne of pea shingle for job for starters but expecting to need more.
