That's us got a start today. 21.5% moisture in fairly clean standing spring barley. Ground conditions are not fantastic but hopefully will improve by the time we get to the wetter fields. Rain on now fairly heavy again.
Drove from mine to New Pitligo in the middle of Aberdeenshire yesterday and was absolutely astonished at the amount of crop yet to cut. Thousands and thousands of acres of standing and not so standing crop. And then add on the amount of straw lying to bale, some blown level across the field, even more thousands of acres. The whole situation is mind blowing, I have seen some bad years but I don't think I've ever seen so much to do all over the NE of Scot at once.
It was a good windy sunny day yesterday and only a few hardy lads were giving it a go due to the fact that they really need a hovercraft under the combine.

Bloody awful.

Thankfully we are not quite as bad down here in the Borders.

Hopefully you will all get through,

Got the S Barley finished yesterday but only after breakdown at 3 pm till 6.30pm, thanks to Hamblys for prompt help. Went on after thinking it would soon not flow into header as so down and dead but a brisk wind kept the dew away and finished field at 9pm. Moved this am but got caught with parked cars outside a church for 15 minutes and went on with 40 acs of beans until we ran out of room to tip but that got that farm finished by 5.30 pm.
Got another move for last 85 acs of beans but have to wait for lorries coming tomorrow to clear barley but I ve got another urgent job to do so may have a go at tea time tomorow and try to finish on Tuesday .
Neighbours linseed is hopefully being cut by someone else but you never know!

Was cutting yesterday. Thankfully have a tracked combine. What a nightmare end to harvest

Autosteer playing up a bit?

It's a terrible harvest for some, lots of grain still to cut on the higher ground. Helping neighbour with potato harvest and it's like a battlefield, trailers getting stuck, etc. And this is just the start of potato harvest!

Autosteer doesn’t work very well when you are sinking in 3 feet. Combine just goes where it wants no matter where you turn the wheel.

There is a still a lot to combine in the Scottish Borders, !000's of acres of straw to bale & if it keeps going there will be very little winter grain put back in as things are going down hill very fast.
Where are you about we have nearly 500 acre rape and 1000 acre wheat back in nr Coldstream been dry enough to get drilling between the wet days chopped about 80 acre of wet rotten straw to let us get a few extra fields in just straw lying on ground destined for spring crop now

Got finished yesterday started on 2nd September (only 50 acres in total ) !, only stuck the combine once! but had to leave some bits, was like cutting silage in places with the meadow grass grown up through it (will need some Liberator next year), has been ready for at least 3 weeks last came in at 23% according to the moisture meter but my teeth were in disagreement.

Most of the straw still to bale, rain again today:( on bright side, second load away for malting today and yield looks promising but will wait until it is all away before I get too excited.

We managed to get everything cut ok but can see me still trying to get straw in a few weeks. Ye still a few local to us with a bit to cut oats seem to be drying off fairly quick after rain unlike the spring barley and they struggling to get the wheat anywhere near!

We are looking to start strawing carrots next week and it's going to be very soft and wet but the biggest problem is going to be the fact that 3 quarters of the straw is lying or still growing in the field. We have 5000 bales stacked mostly rape but are waiting on 14000 more.:(

Finished our harvest yesterday (hoo blxxdy ray!!), cut 28ac of spring beans, yielded at about 1.5t/ac, which is down on our average but better than I was expecting. Averaging about 20%, much wetter than id like, but its a case of get it while you can, rain due again tom pm. Neighbours still cutting SB, and another with Linseed yet to go.

Forecast looking like we will get the linseed done tomorrow. Did the first 30ac on Sunday with the concave wide open and now have a drying floor covered in linseed boils getting made nice and crispy before their 2nd pass through the combine later on. Will aim to grind them slightly more tomorrow but really want it in the shed now. Beans will have to wait for the next dry spell.
