How much luck?

Just a conversation that come up in market the other day between a few of us, thought it might be a interesting topic! how much luck do you give?

I get doing it on store cattle/ lambs breeding sheep, but I notice few people runing after dealers on fatstock day to give them a quid or two do the really need any luck to load em on a wagon and take to slaughter house?

The only folk running after the dealers / butchers are the wazzocks that want to get their name in the paper, hoping that they might pay a bit extra for them next time !

Il give a fiver if selling a ram for decent money. Or when selling store cattle a few quid spread over 60 cattle doesn't count for much. Never on finished cattle or sheep etc though !

This. Maybe £2/3 for a few store lambs / ewes. Fiver for a bunch of cattle. £20 max for a big transaction. It's meant as a thank you gesture and not a bribe....... And never ask me for luck or you'll get sweet fanny ann!

I can't see how giving say a fiver on a bunch of store cattle of say 6 x £1000 makes much difference to their value?

Usually 1% on store cattle. Normally get between 5 and 10 on calves i buy. Bit of nice beer money.

Gisburn used to give 5p in the £ , bought 35 cows and hiefers one day .... had a right wad

I came from Wales. Luck is the norm.

With my own sheep, always try to give a bit.

Unfortunately with selling for others, its not an option.

Only ever had it given me from either the Welsh or the men of the north.

you see a lot of people selling ewes with lambs at foot holding up a £1 coin, It would never make me throw in an extra bid for a £1 of luck

I did get £20 on my recent beltex tup...not sure if that was a good or bad thing
