I read a statistic, just by a random forum poster, that crime is higher per capita in the country than the city.
I know what per capita means, per head, but I still don't see how that can be true.
According to that if you gathered 100 people from the country and 100 people from the city then you would have more people who have been victims of crime from the country than the city.
I looked up that online and couldn't find anything about that being true.
They claimed that because there are less people around then it is easier for criminals to commit crime. Couldn't just the reverse be said though that because there are less people in the country then less people to commit the crimes?
I know it doesn't mean much due to the per capita thing but anecdotally I know of and saw loads of crime while living in cities but have only heard about it now and then in the country. Massively higher concentrations of people in cities so making it likelier I would witness of hear of people who have witnessed the crimes, sure, but still, regardless of that, I would imagine there is just more crime in cities? Most hardened criminals are going to be in the cities aren't they. Not much organized crime in the country, or maybe so I think.
I know farmers have a lot of expensive equipment but it seems like it would be pretty hard to drive a tractor off unnoticed in the middle of the night? Is it more smaller things like power tools grabbable items?
