As above really,my barley is 11-12%,too dry for rolling.I have a Propcorn applicator that I can use to add water fairly accurately, how much would I need to get it to say 15%.I was thinkin 10l/t to add 1%.

Is it so they can add moisture and gain grain weight for extra profit for free????

Or produce a ration of the same energy & protein for a lighter weight then use cheaper lower grades of other stuff to produce a feed that has a set amount of energy etc per tonne?

Im sure merchants add water all the time.a ton of water is peanuts but adds a lot of value to wheat, barley and rape.im sure machines must be available commercially to do it

They are standard items of equipment in every flour mill because they damp the grain just before milling to get the bran to peel off cleanly. Typically they add enough water to get the wheat to 17%.
To raise 11% barley to 15% you need to add 45 litres water per ton. If your barley is 12%, cut the water to 34 litres per ton. But you need to let it soak in.

don't most feed mills spray water over grain as it enters a roller mill 90% to reduce dust 10% to get a "crack" rather than a complete shatter?

im in the same boat into some barley now that's shattering, debateing how to set something up.

Not much help but our local mill adds water before rolling, it comes out perfect , each grain squashed flat, no break up at all. Interested to hear how others add the water as our winter barley came off at 13.5%....the guy that comes in to roll it says he could add mollases as it passes through the auger to dampen the dust.

It takes 24 hours to get into the grain so wont be at the roller mill

when I'm not on the phone speaking to farmers, mills, hauliers, accounts, HR, IT, reps, agronomists, and in occasional meets, you'll often find me walking up and down a 5000t heap of wheat with my watering can, boosting my profits o_O
No wonder you are looking so ripped in your Avatar!! all that wandering up and down!
