How often do new employees not turn up.

I've just had a new employee not turn up and they've blocked my number.

Does this happen to other people? I don't know why she couldn't have got in touch and said look I'm not coming.

I spoke to my best friend who owns a law firm and he said he has senior people who sign contract not turn up!

I guess most of us are from a different era

Must be incredibly frustrating

Surely you just pat S on the bottom and ask her to come back in the yard

Or maybe the other way round she comes in the house and tells you to go back out ....

Ha, Sophie doesn't 'do' milking unless in extreme circumstances. My gripe is our relief girl who wasn't happy for me to be in the parlour this morning (being the first time milking in it for her), and now decided she can't do this afternoon.

It’s not a rare occurrence. Got a collect call from the county jail once after hiring someone after he worked one day. I didn’t answer it. To be fair to him, he did call.

They are doing you a favor if they leave like that. Better to know for sure they were useless. What I don’t get are the ones that don’t show up after working for sometime.

Never a dull day

happens quite regulary round here, got to be careful where you advertise, otherwise you get all the #### from unemployment lot, they have to 'apply' for jobs, to keep getting the dole. Can usually tell the good, from the bad, but it's ###### annoying.

Fairly common I'd say. People often apply for multiple jobs then sort through the ones they get. Or start a job and decide its not for them , or start a job then get offered another one. You'd think they'd at least send a text but there's a lot that don't bother.
I don't think its a particularly new thing either.

I have tried it once. He came from monday to friday. Had the weekend off. Monday morning no sign of him. I offer a room in a separate house for my employees they share, if they want. The other two said he left saturday morning without a word.

Had a young chap here on apprenticeship. We had him for 6 weeks and were able to hire a second. The day the second one started he threw a complete wobbly and didn't come in. Haven;t seen him since and that was 3 years ago.

Another chap we had on trial for a week and were looking to keep him on - even put him up in our house. He struggled with his English and Maths and we had agreed with Duchy College we would help with extra tuition to get him to scratch. He left in the middle of the night.

Just a few that spring to mind.

I was trimming my toe nails.?
My dog ate some rat poison.
I lost track of time.
I didn’t think you needed me today.
The wheel fell off my car,3 days later the wheels fallen off again.
Bailiffs tried taking my car.
I crashed my car (he left it upside down in the middle of an A road and thought removing the number plates would avoid prosecution):banghead:

My favourite was a machinery ring chap who didn’t show up on the Monday.......or the rest of the week for that matter and didn’t reply to any communications. He then randomly appeared around a fortnight later (an hr after yoking time) wondering where “his” tractor was.

told him we assumed he had died and had taken on someone else in lieu so would no longer be requiring his attentive service. ?‍♂️

a friend, and his wife, went out for the day, walking along the beach, at Lime Regis, they met their worker, who had rung in violently sick, so couldn't come to work.
Do any of you actually take time to look at how you treat your employees ive never had anyone not turn up without a call day or night before if employees are trrated with respect and appreciated you will revieve it back

I would guess that you've not employed many people. I can assure you that it's common behaviour particularly with new employees. If they don't turn up the first day it's not because you not treated them well.
