How to Beat the Criminals?

Definitely big dogs, though I am not sure the big mastiff breeds are the right ones.

There was a time when Britain was famous for the pedigree working dogs it produced but no more. I have three German shepherds off working lines, a mixture of Czech, DDR, and Slovak. Max is getting old and it looks like Eastern Europe is the best place to get a replacement, there used to be a good Facebook page but that has been closed down.

Don't forget, a dog still needs to be trained. Mine are safe if they are out when the postman or delivery arrives, but it would be different if I said the word! They really really don't like dogs, but I think several are needed as it's too easy to disable just one. And a radio controlled catch on the kennel gate would be handy.
Dogs are OK for scaring off casual criminals but if someone really wants something they are not much of a problem. Bit of doctored meat and they'll sleep like a baby.

Infra Red beams linked to sirens and plenty of lights coming on at eye level. My theory is that it is better to try and scare the living crap out of them before they get anywhere near your sheds.

have you priced up one of these systems? Then we have a public footpath anyway and animals and wildlife roaming about.
I just run the job as lean as possible nowadays. I don’t even have a nice set of combination spanners, just odds and sods and an old Wolf drill that’s more likely to electrocute you than drill a hole. Round the sheep up with the car or just shake a bag at the gate. Don’t bother with any away grazing anymore. Better all round. Less hassle, less expense.

Mine start sounding off as soon as a vehicle turns off the tarmacked road, 300m at the end of a dirt track.

The biggest deterrent is the certainty of detection. Barking dogs are a good start. Why choose to rob a place where you are sure to be detected and there are easier pickings elsewhere? As I say, with dogs, training is half the battle. Get them fired up with a few mock attacks and they will be eager for the real thing.

That's why a lot of dogs bark at the postman. Stranger appears, dog barks, postman appears to run away -- the dog has won and gets a big buzz out of it so is ready to do the same the next day. I was a relief postman in my student days and know all about that.

Invite a "premium tractor dealership" to set up next door, then the pikies can't be bothered with nicking my old tat. Trouble is, they make holes in my fence on their way in. I always clean anything broken like the old power washer and grinder rather than throwing them out, and leave them in the shed as if ready for use. then if they disappear, they can fix them themselves.

We are forever increasing our defences against the night raiders.
Last night we had a building broken into that we thought was very secure, the padlock was an ABUS High security closed shackle Granit plus that cost almost £120.00 and was supposed to be impossible to cut. However the bastar*s had succeeded in cutting through it.

Only two things were stolen, one was a black Cocker Spaniel bitch and the other a Makita cordless drill.
In the day before a red Suzuki Jimny had been around with three blokes looking to buy a dog and it is highly likely this was the same people.

Not sure what we can use to prevent this happening again without making life impossible for ourselves. They just cut the lock boxes off now to get at the padlocks. They seem to be using very powerful cutting gear similar to what the Fire Brigade use for cutting people out of cars.
You don't want to get involved physically. If you have a decent alerting CCTV system, you can call the police via 999 when you see them. If they look like they are carrying firearms, and you tell the police this, you will get a very, very quick response.

What sort of a lawless failed state do you people live in ?
Vigilante groups ? Talking about taking matters into your own hands ? Defending property to the death ?
FFS, why don’t you move somewhere safer & easier going - like Zimbabwe or Syria for example ?
We live in a state in which politicians and the police have become afraid of those advocating identity politics. In which Irish 'travellers', 'pikies', are to be sympathised with rather than be recognised as overwhelmingly dishonest, violent and filthy - all of which the vast majority of them are. On the bright side, it will only take one successful suit against a Chief Constable for there to be a significant change in police attitudes.

I lived in Zim, before it fell apart, and can tell you that the police back there and then were pretty helpful.

As a yoof I tiled a floor for a gentleman whose son was a little concerned ref an upcomng court date, he had been caught not when taking tools from a large national DIY shop but taking them back and trying for a refund...

I don’t buy many batteries either. Just rotate them round. Keeps them charged and makes it pain for them to move anything. Keep the easy start out of sight as well. From September to March they will be lucky to get any of my kit started ?
Yep, I got one and very effective it is too! The first time it went off, I caught a couple of coppers looking for a stolen Vauxhall Astra at 3am. The beams are wired up to 1000w of Halogen light at eye level and 2x 130db sirens. The coppers were crapping themselves!!:ROFLMAO:
The problem with many CCTV setups, is you only see it once they have done off with all your property and then the Police aren't interested anyway.
Much better if they set the lights and sirens off and the dogs start barking and they no everyone is awake and they just decide it's not worth the hassle. Also it is almost impossible to think with the sirens blaring.

So be it...if anyone comes into my house whilst I’m in it they had better be prepared for a battle because they ain’t taking my belongings without consent
I'd see coming into the house very differently to the yard. Take the quad for all I care - its a heap anyway!

This is excellent. Change the 1000w for the brightest LED you can find. Fit an adjustable time relay to make it flash fast. (Think of those Lenser torches that flash for self deffence) wouldnt be many that would want to work against that. With the flashing and the ciren their senses will be all to cock!

Not a daft idea but depending how big your sheds are why not set up a little bedroom and kitchenette area, log fire big tv and actually sleep in there a few nights a week and maybe your sons or some members of your family etc could stop in there, anything to get me out the house whilst the missus watches emmerdale and Corrie haha

Had a phone call this morning. 01224714109. Said he was from Microsoft and they had detected a problem with my computer. I said "I've only two words to say to you and the second one is 'Off!' " Then blocked the number. Keep getting them from 'Amazon Prime' (Not) too . ?
