How to Beat the Criminals?

We are forever increasing our defences against the night raiders.
Last night we had a building broken into that we thought was very secure, the padlock was an ABUS High security closed shackle Granit plus that cost almost £120.00 and was supposed to be impossible to cut. However the bastar*s had succeeded in cutting through it.

Only two things were stolen, one was a black Cocker Spaniel bitch and the other a Makita cordless drill.
In the day before a red Suzuki Jimny had been around with three blokes looking to buy a dog and it is highly likely this was the same people.

Not sure what we can use to prevent this happening again without making life impossible for ourselves. They just cut the lock boxes off now to get at the padlocks. They seem to be using very powerful cutting gear similar to what the Fire Brigade use for cutting people out of cars.

A lock only stops an honest man.

Was a story here a few years ago of a farmer getting pestered with theft from an outfarm, when he finally got it secure enough to stop them, so they torched the shed instead, see plenty of places with a fancy lock but just take a sheet of tin off beside it or knock the door off the hinges at the other end.

Big dogs, and lots of them. Black and tan ones preferably, they hate them. Friend of mine lives in the wilds of Wales, white vans come up the drive, see the dobies and turn round and disappear. Only trouble is that the doberman blood line has become completely contaminated with a heart defect, they hardly live much beyond 5 now. Maybe a few of these instead:

They only stopped coming here when we stopped replacing the quad bike and more expensive portable tools. Don’t bother with locks any more. Just causes damage. Let them see there is nothing there. Sad state but that’s law and order in Lincolnshire for you. It suppresses enterprise, economic growth and job creation but until Lincolnshire Police and more importantly the judiciary get serious about it then that’s the way it will be. Why should I bother if nobody else gives one?

Local owns a house with a huge listed wooden front door.
Was always kept locked, while they were away thieves damaged the door to gain entry.
The insurance paid out more for the repairs then they did for what was stolen!

The only way to win, sadly is to be nastier than the criminals. Given that these targeted farm machinery robberies are probably the work of Easern European organised criminal gangs, who have access to money, nutters and weapons in abundance, that is a very tall order indeed.
There is no political will to stop it, so we, the good coppers at local level, and our insurers will have to suck it up.

Yup. We are encouraged to report crime, coursing and fly tipping but they never do anything about it. Fly tipping especially there is a sort of unwritten rule, whereby so long as it's tipped on the verge or highway and not in a gatehole (ie councils problem) then we don't really mind. Ditto coursing. We are all aware when certain vehicles are about - even when one is parked up reccying for stuff to nick (not taxed, insured) but nothing happened......they came back a few days later and nicked a teleporter. There are only three roads out of the north half county all with anpr. Really, how hard can it be?

Its appalling, might as well leave the doors wide open! These people have no respect for law and order because the risks of conviction are low and the penalties are often a joke. Whilst we here are not entirely immune from such invaders we are pretty fortunate, our tucked away location gives us some defense. Only 1 route in and over a mile of single lane road to the nearest turn makes a clean getaway by vehicle less of a sure thing. There is usually a vocal collie in the yard too, she tends to be a good judge of character and will display her disapproval to those she takes a dislike to...

I think police are simply overwhelmed by the number of reports they get. I am sure the get fed up that when they do put the effort in catch offenders only for the courts give out joke sentences.

The best defense is a good offense... So the answer to beating criminals... location, location, location, big dogs and claymores.

Stay safe.

Electric fence units and "Mines" but not as above. Leave door open connected to box with blank shotgun cartridge in it. You know they are there so can open window and let loose into the sky with shotgun.
Motorbike chain that is covered in plastic. Feed in electric fence, If you touch the lock or try to cut the cable you get a shock.

A builder friend told me that an expensive lock or a locked shipping container are as good as erecting a sign saying, "There is something worth nicking in here, come and help yourself". Only absolute scum would take your dog.

That’s my dads theory, padlocks only make it easier for them to know where to go!
Have heard of them taking the sheets off the side of a shed and gaining access that way
