How to Incorporate old traditional wooden beams in a new steel frame building?

Has anyone done this / any recommendations on an architect / steel frame building manufacturer who could help please?

We are looking to demolish a traditional wooden farm building and replace it with a steel frame structure identically finished externally as the original. To retain some character and history internally I'd like to salvage some of the wooden frame and incorporate it / amalgamate / attach it to the new metal frame but would like ideas about how best to achieve this. Thanks

Seen some new builds which use a beam from their predecessor as the mantelpiece, nice feature to remind you of the past. What about a separate cart lodge/carport from old material if space allows?

Hi
Difficulty maybe in proving the structural design ( requirement of CE marking for new buildings) if timbers are to be used other than decoratively, but our designer happy to take a look and give you our thoughts If you could send some photos of existing and perhaps description of what you wish to achieve.

I think you'll struggle, no structural engineer will want to back it. It's difficult enough to get them mix steel and new timbers. I'd keep the timber and use elsewhere as said above.

One I did earlier:)

As has been said, you can clad the stanchions/rafters.

How about cutting a slot out of the old beams so that they fit over the steel ? I’ve seen a fake beam made of fibreglass that fits like that and you can’t tell it from the original timbers, but it could be done with the real thing I’m sure.

This is definitely an option. You cut out a channel from the timber so it sits surrounding the steel. I've seen it done a few times, looks really good.
