How to kill Gorse (whinns)

what's the best way to get rid of gorse (whinns) in a hedge row.
seems to want to take the place over.
can it be sprayed and killed or cut back and something painted on the remaining branches for it to rot away

Spraying Roundup will kill your hedge as quickly as the whins. Is it any bother in the hedge compared to out in a field?

I assume you done this when there in flower
It would kill branches but surely the main stem wouldn't go away or rot.
Let me know
I was advised not to spray them when in flower. Either earlier or later in year. We've ripped out and burnt a heap. My agronomist advised spraying them with grazon. Going to hit the regrowth with this. Ripped some out a few years ago and starting to grow back.

Will try it on them first.

"I hear" Thistlex at 200ml/ 15lt knapsack if you want a good chance of killing it.

Grazon at knapsack rate if you want to go back spraying the same plant every year and you enjoy paying grazon prices

Spray in situ, but you will get collateral damage as the surround plants are also woody.

Cut and stump treat either by paint brush or drill stump and fill with glypo.

Pull out with digger.

Burn in situ..... might set the whole hedge alight

Have done all the above and it always comes back eventually.
If its in a hedge, I'd just leave it, trim it and enjoy having a evergreen hedge that your livestock (if you have any) will appreciate mid winter.
