How to stop lorries using a private entrance they think leads to an industrial estate!

been going on for years but getting worse every year.

Sat nav's don't help, signs don't make any difference, most who get stuck can't read English, the others can but don't have time too.

Even signs with the main users of the site crossed out dont work.

Once they pull in they can't turn around so get stuck / rip up the tarmac trying to get out.

All that's left is to fit a low metal bar over the road a few yards in to let cars in but not lorries. Council have said we can and bin men will lift it to pass but I just can't see it happening.

Ive told the affected parties to get pictures and ring me, not sure if I can charge for damages to grass / roads but would like to catch them getting stuck to vent at them if nothing else!

Any suggestions!?

It's good 400 m from the houses, 4 in total, 2 privately occupied. Not sure how well that would work, postman and Tesco deliveries etc.

Anything which can be opened / lifted and has to be by most will probably get left open anyway, can't really win here, we have planted at the entrance but they take no notice

You'll have to do something otherwise nothing will change.

I know but what. The two private houses aren't happy but don't come forward with inspiration, my Tenats get cross but don't bother to document or let me know when it happens.

It's more the trashing of the fences, tarmac road (£16k) and grass paddock which frustrates me.

I like the post code idea, long term plan, will see what they think on that one.

Take up position at the end of the road.

Bigger clearer No Entry signs. Contact council or whoever is responsible for signs and get them to clearly sign the correct route.
Maybe talk to the biggest companies on the estate and get them to add directions to haulage companies.
I like the height restriction idea though, just chuck the binmen a couple of quid at Christmas to keep them sweet.

Put a height bar in as said but as your looking at it put the bottom hinge an inch further back that way it would sit level and straight to look at but would always want to swing closed then on the tip of the bar put a handle coming down so binmans assistant could easily reach to open it and so you can fin a normal gate latch at chest height doesn't have to lock and just phone council and leave instructions with them for binmen make it high enough a parcel van will fit but not a 7.5 tonner hide the latch so from the road you can't see its not locked

This works, as the neighbouring farm did it. The only potential issue is that it's only really allowed for new builds, so when asked if his house was new my neighbour agreed, despite it being nearer to 300 years old. You also need agreement from every house holder subject to the change, so neighbour typed out 8 letters and took them around the cottages for them to sign while explaining the benefits.
