how to wear layers for cold weather?

You know it takes up to, and often more than, 2 weeks to acclimatize to cold.

A person acclimated to -25 will easily wear a tshirt at -10.

Perhaps the issue isn’t so much that damp cold is so cold, it’s that it’s so rarely cold enough for long enough in the UK for anybody to adjust to it. I’d have no issue coming from a -25 Canadian winter to a -2 UK one and feeling balmy. No matter the weather. What’s the tip - stay dry, stay warm? As long as I was dry I sure wouldn’t need the clothing I wear here, there.

Dress appropriately and as your blood thickens your clothing requirements will change. My fall wardrobe makes me look like I’m hypothermic compared to my spring wardrobe. Temperatures are about the same.

Mercifully, my old ra-ra skirt gave up the ghost quite quickly after being brought into the work wear category.
' The Ra Ra skirt'

There was a young lady from Devon,

Who worked with the sheep that thought that, there, ... it was heaven (y)

On A Steep learing curve she found

It not so good When on muddy ground

But It was fine in the long Grass

As it nicely covered her legs (y)

You're truly the McGonagall of the South West!
But I'm under no illusions that im a good poet ( or limerick writer for that matter )

but quite Possibly if the guy was around today he would be hailed as top notch artist and B or maybe an A celeb well either that or still condemned for being totally un pc .

Anyway Lots of layers of clothes are not required in the balmy sw . Just a boiler suit or leggings over shearing trousers , tattersal / check shirt and poly cotton sweat shirt is what I live in pretty much.....maybe a fleece over if it driving wind or really cold. But even that soon gets chucked off when physical work gets under way .

But then I'm not a woman ....they feel the cold dont they ? :sneaky:

Has anyone ever tried a pair of heated socks?

I always find I have cold feet, don’t even get warm over dinner time. Not very fun.

Not tried heated socks, but do have Armadillo merino socks which are brilliant, go for the heavy wool bootsock, top tip- they usually have a "12 days of Christmas" sale in December where a different item is half price on each of the days, their beanies are brilliant too for some thing so light and thin,

Not sure someone who says they live in the “balmy sw” can comment about others feeling the cold

Newport / Cardiff that part of Wales will be very similar to S.west England exposed to the driving s. westertlies but fairly low temp / frost free especially these days.
It's only a few miles away as the crow flies.

6 c here atm , same as in Cardiff. With an over night forecast of 4 c here and Cardiff staying at 6c and both foggy as it's been this morn but burnt off to a beautiful sunny day ...

But you Wouldn't want a ra ra skirt on , as it might chill yer arse..:X3: unless you would be wearing leggings under it I guess...(y)

Sleet on Friday. What layers to wear to keep warm under clammy waterproofs?
I doubt sleet more like rain.
Yes Biggest job in this part of the World is keeping dry.
Jogging bottoms or Jean's under boiler suit ( best found online mole valley dont have much choice these days ) then over the b.suit water proof leggings over that ex army gortex ones are the best I've ever had, waterproof and tough but flexible.
Not sure why women have to make such a fuss over clothes ...:ROFLMAO::oops:
Damp, very damp ......and 9c here atm in the dark and 10c in Cardiff it's not cold there , my niece lives and works there .

Happy days.
