How Wet is your ground

Drove across hilly clay fields in 110 with AT tyres on today, no issues despite recent rain which followed a couple of dry weeks. New grass leys ewes going onto looking a bit thin in bottom but lots of length from generally mild autumn.

Land is horrendously wet. I have been waiting for some dry days to repair some cracks in the house where water is getting through. Filled it with "render repair" during a prolonged dry spell of 16 hrs (plasticygluey stuff) it washed out

Predictably wet here. I don’t put the quad in the grazing fields now, just park at the gate and go old school on my feet !
Moved the Cheviots and lleyns to a fresher field yest , and Glyn the collie looked like he’d been bog snorkelling by the time he was finished !
But trying to put a rosier spin on it, actually walking your ground ( mud) gives you time to think, take in the views, and I realised I would still rather do this than anything else !:)
But as my cows have been in since mid September, I really feel sorry for all you poor guys who are so dry, with cows out and dust blinding you ! !

We've had more frost in he past two weeks than the whole of last winter.

Cattle are coming in on Wednesday which is not bad going considering it's all clay soil which is usually saturated by now (last year was pretty easy going as well).

The rain has been average but day / night temperatures have remained high with decent wind which has kept the ground firm.

Outwintering these on the driest field on farm.
Cows are making a mess in the gateways but until the deluge starts they can forage a little longer.
They come in for silage each morning but prefer to lie outside.

If ours were still out here I'd would probably have RSPCA on my back![emoji53]
Your land looks positively desert [emoji266] like compared to my swamp.

Its been too wet here to subsoil for the last two years.
Mid july to mid sept this year was awful. Since then its been drier but now it didn't take much to make it real wet again.

Spent the last 3 days ploughing heavy ground that was too wet to get wheat in a month ago.

Turning over surprisingly well for the type of ground it is. Not all that wet shiny way I was expecting. Amazing the difference a dry couple of weeks can make even at this time of year.

West Carms... brought the cattle in last Monday, wish I'd done it a week earlier; they were out until the start of December last year. Loads of grass left though, sheep happy but it's really a bit rich for them, shan't need to give them anywhere near as much hay as usual. Have had standing water on a 35 degree slope! Well, I know it must have been flowing down, but it just didn't look like it was moving at all... o_O.
