How would you steal a low loader trailer?

This was our low loader trailer, I overloaded it with posts and set off to the job, half way there the drawbar bent severely, we were on a quiet road between two small villages, so we pulled in onto the verge and unloaded the trailer on to another and left it hoping to slowly tow it home later.
Yesterday at 7.00am it was there on the verge, 10.00am still there, 5.30pm it’s gone!
Initially I thought some friendly farmer may have towed it to a yard for me but we can’t find it, nobody saw it leave, you would have a job to tow it with a tractor as the bed was nearly on the floor, you would struggle to load it onto a wagon on a very small single track road with a very small verge.
How would you steal it and have a speedy getaway?
Any ideas?
9 hole drawbar on the linkage would lift it up clear.

Probably one of those nasty gypos went and asked him if he had lost a trailer before the police towed it away.

See below...

Gyppos maligned unnecessarily again then,
You can kind of see why they have no respect for society cant you..

I, and probably many others, will be happy and fascinated if you'll share all the good experiences you've had with our travelling friends. (y)

Nothing particular to report; just commenting on the tendency always to assume the worst. I am not immune to this myself.
If you ostracise and revile people for long enough, they will become the anuses you expect them to be; works for prisoners, youth gangs, itinerant theives, naughty children....

True enough.

Meanwhile, in other news this morning, police have locked down a ‘traveller’ camp looking for the murderer of a newly married police officer, killed whilst investigating a burglary last night.?

And if there is evidence that they were involved they should be skinned and rolled in salt.
The Government who run policing, are to blame for this, they have allowed these sites to become no go areas like inner city ghettoes were in the 80s.
A thief is a turd whether he is black or white, lives in a house or a caravan.

One gave me a lift home when I had a puncture on the bicycle and wouldn't take a penny for his troubles.

I've mixed feelings about the traveler community. Yes, there are the accounts of theft and fiddling, the littering and fights, but on the other hand I do get the impression that many would like to step away from it all and join in what we regard as normal society. However, they find themselves ostracized and tarred with the single brush that deters any likelihood of acceptance, as so ably demonstrated on this thread. It can only go to reinforce and exaggerate the divisions, as also noted.

What, all of them? Why not just march them all off to the gas chambers and be done with it, then you can start on the disabled and eventually move on to the Jews.

Back home, we used to have some ‘proper’ Romany gypsies that stayed on a wide verge near one of our blocks of grasskeep for a few weeks around the local horse fair (‘bolt down fortnight’). A more honest, genuine group of people you couldn’t hope to meet. Incredibly ‘house’ proud too, with not a thing out of place at any time.

They dispared of the ‘tinkers’, that gave them all a bad name and were responsible for most of the thieving that suddenly spiked around that time.

Our country cousins do them self no favours what so ever. They want the perks of society with out any of the contributions. I live amongst a lot of them as they have descended on the area I live. It’s cost thousands to secure every thing. Gates, alarms where we didn’t have one for 30 years. They are a blight in the local area. Aggressive, obnoxious confrontational and so on.

My neighbours are true old Romany gypsies, nicest people going. Incredibly house proud and help with any thing. They take our scrap, help with broken down machines etc. Even they don’t like a lot of travellers that have come into the area for the exact same reason mentioned, the bad ones give the good a bad name. Crying shame. There is a stark difference between travellers and gypsies.

What, farmers claiming SFP and dodging all the tax that they can get away with?

There are legitimate was of reducing your tax liability then there is having no fixed abode and several different names so it’s hard for authorities to trace exactly who you are and how many times they are paying you benefits each month. The difference is honesty and integrity which very few travellers have any of.
