Got one for a mate years ago from a neighbour. When collected and paid for, he informed us, that it was needing a plate welded to the bottom of the chain guard to keep the oil in.
Might be worth cleaning everything down for a proper look?
If you cant get liquid grease, you might get away with mixing 140 gear oil with ordinary grease, before you pour it in.
Or make an inspection plate for the top, so you know its well lubricated.

if its the gasket, get some of the BLACK gasket cement as sed for fitting sumps on cars etc.
its quite sticky to put on and seals real good.

its what ive used with no leaks (yet)

Take it to bits and repair it properly.
Seal, collar and bearings still available, did our this last winter.

dad mnaged to brak the rotor on ours (had it too deep and clobbered it on some big stones)
i stripped it all down and got a sleeve made up to fit inside the rotor. took me a couple of days to do it as good as i could be after 20 acres or so, it has no vibrations (rotor must be aligned) and no oil leaks.

stripped it today and cleaned it all up, was a bit of a mess, chain has been rubbing on the cover, and the cover has been repaired in the past with fiberglass, put it back together and sealed the joint with black instant gasket, will fill it with liquid grease just incase i havent sealed it properly, im only a small crofter only using it to do maybe 1/2 acre a year for planting spuds and some swedes so should be ok for that, need to get the back door on next that fell off last year and the top gearbox is also leaking can i put liquid grease in the top gearbox?

I had to take side cover of my Rotavator to replace the bearing ,on reassembly I cut cover at top about 6 inch down to make a 2nd cover, weld flat piece of steel on top cover to make a flange so it seals when bolted together,I used good quality sealer on cover to make gasket .reason for cutting cover was to make it easier to repair chain when it breaks saving taking complete cover of .I used thickest gear oil I could get to lube chain,
