Yesterday I was on the NAC Stoneleigh Showground.

I always find it quite sad walking around the tiring former Royal Show pavilions although there is a smaller thriving community still working there

The next big shake up will be when / if HS2 gets put straight through it between the watermeadow ramparts on one side and the Abbey on the other.

I met a contractor competitor yesterday and he has a customer in Doncaster who had 65 acres compulsory purchased. The deal was done but there was a crop of wheat that was fit for harvest. He wasn't allowed to go on to crop it and was told a contractor was being paid to clear it . Nothing has happened of course

This sort of thing must be replicated up and down the entire route I guess

£88 billion on current prices and 2031 for initial services on phase 1.

Seems like HS2 is going the same way as Crossrail....ex chairman of both projects, Sir Terry Morgan, needs a good probing

There should be public debate before such large sums are spent on new projects. Particularly when existing infrastructure is in need of repair and upgrade. I really don’t think we can afford such extravagance.

The entire project is miss conceived. We are starting with trains - a Victorian invention. The starting point should be a maglev - like the one siemens have built in shanghai.
Also there are many things this nation of nations needs before we build a shorter commute to export house price inflation north. Better eat west connections spring to mind.....

@JP1 , think the Doncaster farmer had posted on FB about the wheat crop, just standing there neatly fenced off with a newt fence alongside it.
There may have been one or two "improper" suggestions as to what his course of action could be.
The whole thing is a colossal waste of money that would be better invested bringing the current network up to standard.

£90bn to get to Birmingham 20 minutes quicker, how many people does that affect? Compared to modernising the current mainline all the way to scotland and increasing the flow north and south on the M1/M6.

Forget another Heathrow runway build it outside of London.

Forget HS2 get on and extend tbe rail network and get a couple more Hinkley C underway.

Yes. It's as quick to get from Grantham to London as Heathrow to London. I'll sell them 1000ac to build one here.

The A15 in Lincoln needs turning into a dual carriageway for starters. But £££ is so cheap they can do both.

Recently saw a YouTube film of an airport built in China, biggest in the world and from design to being in use only 5 years.said to cost $15billion to build and as a comparison the extra runway at Heathrow was going to cost $17 billion.beijing dating airport is the one.well worth a look on YouTube.i found it staggering.the costs on hs2 will be taken on by contractors who will sub it out ,then subbed out again and again.as I mentioned above I can’t see it happening.the Chinese would do it at a fraction of the cost.
