Anyone have either, happy with them? A cracking deal on the P20 but with the pro being better dust/waterproof yet alot more expensive I can't decide!

I have just got my P20 Pro Twighlight (Thursday) - basically on face of it - it appers to be a direct copy of the Iphone X in terms of design and layout.

It has a good battery life thus far, and it serves my requirements fine. I buy my phones outright - no contract then buy a sim only 12 month contract, so I take a hit up front.
It comes with case and screen protector in the box - which was a nice to have.

My Mrs works in o2 and is a massive Apple nerd. She's had the X since the release date and is also a Samsung adviser but the Huawei is the first phone that would turn her away from the iPhone, she's very impressed and trying to get me to change to one.

The main reason for getting a Huawei P20 Pro should be the camera. It has three rear facing ones. A standard/wide, a telephoto, plus a monochrome one for measuring depth of field or depth of focus if you like. High end phones sell on their screen, storage and camera, not necessarily in that order. It is mainly the camera that drives premium phone sales, plus the software that enables the camera.

If not interested in the best camera phone, then there are plenty of cheaper Android phones that will work just as well. The bargain at the moment must be the Motorola G6 and G6 Plus. I'd go for the Plus for its drip resistance, better screen and camera, for £50 more than the standard. Price either side of £200 sim-free.

Interestingly, this month's Which magazine reviews the three 'top end phones'
iSomething, Galaxy and Huawei
there is no mention of the ability to use it as a phone, just a review of the camera and it's abilities!!!

the canoe is of interest, its a wave powered test rig, the production ones can stay at sea indefinatly with just a bit of solar power for communications , navigation and sampling gear

That picture shows just why many people are willing to pay more for a better camera. The whole scene is a mush, from the pebbles in the foreground to everything else. What I presume is a boat, just above dead centre, is a purple blob. It has exceptionally poor dynamic range as well. The better phone cams have very effective Auto-HDR to take care of that.
Sorry if these comments disappoint you, but you did presumably post it as an example of excellence, where as it actually shows your camera’s deficiencies quite clearly [in contrast to the actual image, which is far from clear].
The scene is a nice one, spoilt by a cheep and nasty camera. If it wasn’t taken by the Alcatel, then you are exceptionally clever to get whatever you were using to render so poorly.
