Huawei

It’s nothing to do with spying. It’s because they are growing so fast. They have over taken apple(American company) as the second largest phone manufacturer behind Samsung. Apparently some of their investments have been less than transparent seeing as they were a small level tech company only a few years back. I have one as a work phone. They are a good phone for what they cost.

Thanks @Deutzdx3 does it mean no google apps at first switch on and load up what you want from the store or google apps wont load/run on a huawei.

I also have a huawei phone and a gmail account, not sure where that leaves me in the future.

Doesn’t affect us. Just the USA as google in Europe is a different business to google in America. Same company but different registration. May filter out this way in the future but not now. It’ll only affect new phones in the US in the coming months. You’ll be unaffected.

I’d avoid buying one because they are horrid phones to use. Really hate mine.
Bought a P20 lite to replace my SE, tried really hard to get used to it but after two weeks I gave up and bought a new SE.
Son did something very similar last week, his was a P30 pro.

Meanwhile Apple continues merrily to use Foxconn and other subbies to manufacture all its devices in China

It’s a funny old dystopian world in which we find ourselves eh!
Interesting article in PC Pro about the potential for malicious code to be inserted in to smart meters, with the possibility of turning a large proportion of households off then on again, doing wonders for the grid! Apparently they are well secured, but only so you cannot defraud your supplier

This was a thread I posted October last year about the largest ever security hack uncovered to date. Quite scary....

I don't know why they are singling out Huawei when they all manufacture in China, and this sort of thing is quite difficult to detect (especially if hidden under a large component).

Just had my half-hour meter checked. The tech said they took on the metering for a chain of shops, and found that every meter in the business was dead, blank displays, although power etc were good. Hacked??
