Hutchinsons are now introducing vehicle tracking on their fleet. This now means they can text you when your chemical arrives!

Cracking idea! Hope the others notice and catch up!

The couriers like DPD have been doing this for ages. The only trouble is the "real time" tracking is about 10 minutes out from reality.

Pretty good though and certainly way better than the palletforce/line co's.

The trouble with the DPD system is that the more experienced drivers will beat the projected times if left to their own devices so sometimes will deliver the package but take the label (including barcode) with them to scan at the appropriate time.

Had a chemical delivery in the autumn. Couldn't find 1 of the products. Phoned up buying group to see if it was on another van. Distributor had tracking photo of the van in my yard. Did solve the problem there wasn't enough room in the store so driver put the chemical in the adjacent shed. Mrs bg had tidied her horse rugs on the box.

Filled in the Hutchinsons form for our chem deliveries to our contractors yard (normal practice) to be texted to him. Contractor phoned us up a couple of weeks ago to see if our T1 had been delivered to us in error as we both knew the agronomist had ordered it and it wasn't at his. Said this season Hutchinson deliveries have been very unreliable.

Was waiting for chemical to arrive yesterday and wasn't really sure it would turn up so spoke to the buying group to find out, they phoned back saying 3.30pm it would be here and it was within 5 mins of said time, that was Hutchison, not bad I thought.

Some firms are certainly doing well on service it seems. Others less so.

I find DPD generally pretty good, but their prediction of 12:52 - 13:52 normally means it will arrive within 5 mins of the start time. Sometimes I've had it that I don't get a text until 5 mins before it's delivered - you do get the impression the drivers know ways to work the system to make sure they don't get shown as "late".

Even had one delivery driver who was early.....the computer wouldn't let him deliver it, so he had to sit outside in the van for 10 mins until computer said yes!!

It seems the more deliveries / collections you have, the more reliable they become.
Years ago we used to have all sorts of problems, but now that we get daily deliveries from most of the companies, I can barely remember the last time we had a problem.
Getting to know the drivers certainly helps. We are in a sparesely populated area so get the same drivers 90% of the time luckily.

Had the Hutch Isotrac texts but it started to annoy me, a text telling me when he entered the yard, when he left the yard, I then started to get the same text twice, useful when needing chem to get spraying but my phone was forever going off and always at the back of your mind as soon as you heard a text come through, it in reality meant writing another bloody large cheque. For some reason I dont get the text any more

Serviced agronomy? I order all the chemical here myself so know to expect a bill from it! Chemical usually comes from numerous suppliers so knowing when they've arrived is great. Sometimes a new driver doesn't know where the chem store is and so decides to drop it here or there. The added benefit would be if they said in the text which chemical it was....so I don't think "Wahay! It's here I can go spraying" only to find they've brought the adjuvent but not the actual chemical!!

.

Absolutely true, but occasionally the driver takes a holiday and then the new guy has to learn all the little nuances about which door to knock and wait at and which addresses don't actually match the postcodes and which companies have changed their names but not the signage on their building and which places will not answer at meal times etc.
An extra 2 minutes at each drop can easily add 2 hours (or more) to the expected 10 hour day.

Frontier were doing it a year ago on our deliveries.

Thanks again for that tip. I got in touch with them and they said it's a new service they've been rolling out depot by depot "since the start of the year". My local depot are apparently one of the last to get to use it.....but by all accounts I'm now all registered and set up ready to use it.

All chemical distributors on here take note...!

I think they are all doing it now, but possibly still ironing out the issues. Agrii are just getting their system ironed out. Has good potential though. Tracking is very useful, as some one said some dealers have it n their vans so we know when they will get in to us.

A skip company local to here have in on all their vehicles too. They can tell you when you phone up where it is en route.
