Hydraulic Hose Repair Cost?

If you take into consideration the fact5 you had very little downtime id say its fair enough. Its not the first time if trailed from one dealer to the next looking for hose fittings wasting time and fuel.

Huge range in just pipes, single wire, twin wire, usually called 2SN, and theres 2SC twin wire compact hose, smaller outside diameter, and more flexable in curving. As you go up in size the rated pressure drops so by 3/4" upwards you might need a 4 wire hose . Some pipes need skiving before fitting and crimping, some dont. ...this is just the basics, probably 100's of different spec pipes.

Take it off yourself next time and take it to them to be repaired.

Broke rear window on NH last week. Phoned dealer £235 for new window. Phoned scotglass for price fitted, £410.

Probably took 1.5 hours to pick up and fit. Would have been an hour of that going to get it.

Not often I earn £110/hour.

No it wasn’t - it was a local independant chap 10 miles away which did suprise me - the suprising thing is talking to locals who also operate plant there is no consistency with his charging - others would have had a bill for £75 and I get a bill for £260 - I sincerely think/hope I don’t look like a fecking mug:)

You could have bought all the bits needed for that hose for probably less than £35 . A meter of 3/4" four wire hose @£9.10 ,ferrules @£1.25 each, 90degree flange fitting about£10 plus the other ,which should be less!
It looks like theres good money to be made from hydraulic pipes, but one will soon spend a couple of thousands and still not be able to stock a fraction of all the different fittings available.
£218? That is one heck of a margin, 2 pipes a day and he'd have a good living!

Sorry but what trade hose supplier is going to anyone 1m of multi spiral hose! You tend to have to buy that sort of thing on a roll of at least 20m
And the tools to crimp said hose at there cheapest is £1500 but a proper hose fitter will probably have a much higher spec crimper on board at least double that cost. Then they will also have insurance to cover there arse if something went wrong after. Lots of hidden costs and lots of variation of hose spec and quality.

All hose repair vans charge top money and they can because all there core customers are plant hire firms or large building contractors or industrial, rare to see a hose van on a farm/agri.

If i took in a multi spirel hose to my local hyd shop i would expect a bill for at least £70 plus vat for anything up to 1m especially if it had sae flange fittings.

Theres not many local to me that can make multi spirel anyway.
