Hydraulic pipe crimper

I'm sure this has been covered many times before but I'm thinking about getting a crimper to repair and make new pipes. I've been looking at Gates and Parker ones on ebay. Which is better? and how much work do you need to justify one? Budget is around 3-400.

if you can do it cheaper than harbrook and s&h burns, then you'll probably get custom, even better if you can do same day service.

Finally bought a gates k2503 crimper plus a load of bits from parquip but no manual for it.
I could do with a bit of help.
What does skive/non skive mean?
What do you use to cut the hose with cleanly?
What settings do you use?
Can you overcrimp an end or even recrimp a leaky end?
Any other tips would be grateful too.

Skive is where you cut the outer rubber off.

I use a slitting disc on a 4" grinder

I don't bother with the settings,You just know how hard to crimp them after a few (not had any fail)

Not recommending it but when youre really screwed at 4.30 am on xmas morning you can cut the old ferrule off and recrimp the insert with a new ferrule.

That's what I do,you won't mark the insert if your good with the grinder.(y)
