Hydraulic pipe crimper

I’m not looking a buying a crimper solely for my own use, it’s all part of the transition into more ag engineering/repairs and getting rid of the money losing tractors/contracting !.
If your looking at doing it on a commercial basis they’re worth a call, they pretty much stock anything you can think of in the way of fittings and hose.
They supply pretty much all the hose guys round me, and will even manufacture any pipes I can’t do on my machine.

I've had a few pipes mended on diggers resently and they haven't mended pipe. Had to have whole new pipe.
Must be new guidelines

Been that way for a while, against H & S I believe to swage a new fitting on an old pipe you must have a whole new pipe. The people I currently use also told me that apparently all Hyd hoses should be changed at 8 years old, I don’t know how that’s gonna work or how true it is.

I know when I went on a corse at the Kramer factory in German they told us it was law to replace all hoses on plant every 8 years. The hoses where all date stamped and they did hose replacement kits for there machines.
This was probably 18 years ago now.

Not exactly new:

There is some question as to the interpretation of the regulations & how they apply to repairs, but as one hydraulics guy put it to me - when he crimps an end on a hose he is effectively certifying that the hose is safe to use; if that hose subsequently fails under pressure & causes life changing injuries... who is going to be liable both legally & morally?

I paid £600 for ours. More than I wanted to go to and kicked myself for missing cheaper ones previously but it was very tidy and with all 3 sets of dies. The sets of dies cost a fair bit to buy separately so it's worth paying more for one with a complete set. It's already more than paid for itself so not too bad really.

Also they are very good at crimping hex nuts on to wire rope to fix or make new cables

What brand of hyd hose do you use. As you can only use Gates hose on a gates crimper.
Partly true ...if you have the newer Gates Megacrimp dies..the ones that leave the crimpled finish, like a cupcake paper. The older 115,120,130 plain dies were meant for the now obsolete Gates HA one piece fittings. Plenty of us successfully crimping 2 piece fittings with these dies, yes it has to be crimped twice to cover the whole length of the outer ferrule. If someone wants one piece fittings, Vapromatic ones work fine with the old dies. And there is a company in the UK making copies of the HA fittings. Personally I just use the 2 piece fittings and hose from Parquip. Great service, good price same for evryone,no minimum order ,just the carridge charge extra.

Would you be able to use 115,120,130 dies on the gates megacrimp fittings

I really dont know, probably wouldn't be approved of. I would ask why do you want to buy Megacrimp fittings , with those dies ,you could get copies of the old HA Gates series fittings , or use 2 piece fittings for a third of the price.
Thanks for the reply. Reason I asked was I bought an old gates crimper and the chap said he used gates fitting as they were best. So I order some online not knowing the difference of old and new type. Luckily not to many.

Can you still buy the 115 120 and 130 dies for the gates crimper ?.
New? Dont think so, usually keep an eye on Ebay, need a set of 130 dies , lent my set to a friend. Have a spare set of 120 dies, could they be ground to size? New Megacrimp dies available, but pricey Screenshot_20200704-162959_Samsung Internet.jpg
