Any advice on what to buy as in size, thread type etc, so many sizes, even metric comes in L and S, which I presume is light and standard ? Started to build up stock, mainly 2 wire hose in SN, and some 1/4 and 3/8 in compact 2 wire SC. Also using the 2 piece fittings, so have the option in an emergency of reusing the inner part .

Keep all the ends off old pipes, firstly usefull to take for comparison when buying.
secondly, old fittings can be very usefull if you know someone good at brazing

Why not go round all your machines and look at what sizes you have and what is likely to get damaged or bust.
Take a look at the common sizes/lengths and get some hoses made a bit longer, you can always loop the extra out the way till you can get a proper one made.
L & S is Light and Strong in metric sizes, mostly L on stuff up to about 3000psi if it's a smallish hose, it will be marked on the back of the nut what size it is like 12L or 16L or you can measure the tube/hose end with a calipers.
Most hoses burst because the rubber outer has been cut and water/sh!t gets in and corrodes the wires.

i was here about ten yrs ago, tbh, unless your closest lad that makes pipes up is a long way away youd be as far on sticking with him.
i allowed that for a right set up youd want to be spending thousands and thousands, i spent a few of them and still was short of fittings times so i gave up.
the way i ended up looking at it was my man is 5 mins away and he carys the stock instead of me.
go for it if the itch needs to be scratched but thats what i found personally.

Thanks for all the reply, advice and opinions, I am slowly building up stock ,buying off Nick at Parquip. For all my searching, I cant find any other supplier so competitive. It's just the vast range of fittings to cover, ,as advised l will have to spend some time with a note book ,spanners and calipers and match up what's fitted to my machines.

I keep a minimum of 20X each of 1/4, 3/8 & 1/2 bsp in straight (F&M) & 90's.
Covers most things.
I got a range of jic & metric fittings for Parquip for the odd hose I need to make up for tractors/ European machinery etc.

Every order I make I like to get a good few 3/8 to 1/2 bsp male nipples as there always dissapering [emoji1]

Either stock the lot or stock nowt because anything between will guarantee you will have a load of money laid out and never the right fitting when required.
I agree to an extent.

I've got 2 or 3 hoses that would get me by in an emergency and I've also got 2 or 3 quick release couplings and spuds for a quick change over should one get damaged.

Re-ending of hoses is a grey area & bfpa/bfpda naturally have come down on the side that is more profitable for their members - i.e. always replace the entire hose. The machinery directive says that for a machine to comply with the directive, all hose assemblies and their components must be new. Strictly speaking any repair (or modification) to machinery should, in terms of safety, not compromise the original design or standards compliance so that implies that re-ending is a no-no, although it's not explicitly stated how an emergency repair stands. I'm not sure if there's any case law on this yet, but I lean towards the play it safe stance on the basis that a re-made hose is not going to be to the standard of a new one & hydraulics are a very unforgiving beast.
