I split a lot of firewood for the farm and as i have a collection of vintage tractors i might as well use them to power all the different parts of the system so had a hunt round the farm for bits so
1. beer barrel oil tank

2. frame from an old yard scraper and add a few bits of scraps from the bin

3. i got hold of a 3 to 1 geared hydraulic pump and some pipe work and a filter

and now i have a system that provides more oil flow and way more pressure that the tractor ever could. The tractor only runs at 1000 rpm engine speed

The log splitter is another subject all of its own lol

My good man you have made a grave error in this set up, you need to put a pressure release valve in the out feed from the pump and not depend on one after the quick coupler, If you don't connect the hoses properly or if the male is damaged or worn, where the oilflow is restricted you will blow forty shades of sh!t out of your pump.
I strongly recommend you fit a pressure release valve on the pressure side to dump off and unwanted pressure that may inadvertently build up when the hoses are disconnected and to run a breaker you will need it..........
I company I knew converted a 3 cly lister engine to run a hydraulic pump set with an identical set up (no prv) one lad started to disconnect it from the hydraulic driven water pump prior to lunch never finished the job and headed off for the nose bag. A steel fixer arrived on noticed water in the bottom of the hole, pump is in situ so he fires up the engine, pump seals disintegrate, but only after the drive twists. Fitter reckons it was the only time the engine started with the first flick of the key. A PRV block was fitted with the new pump............

Onn edit I would increase the return hoses size to reduce back pressure on the system............

Yes i probably should put a pressure release valve in but i'm tight and its only ever me that operates it and i pay the bills so i have taken the cheap option and soon after that picture was taken i removed the centres out of the quick couplers so if the are not connected i will soon know with an oil fountain and oil flow is not restricted at all
