This is just an observation .
is it my imagination of have the price of Makita batteries and chargers gone mental .
Back in august ,the double chargers were £50 ,,now the cheapest Ive seen is £75 ,,5 Ah batteries have gone from £50 to £70+ .
is this because of brexit import tarrifs ,,if it is then Makita will out price themselves .
I have been thinking Milwaukee batteries are creeping up aswell.
Maybe not as much as you say Makita have, but seeing some silly prices advertised for Milwaukee batteries recently.
Shipping from China seems to be getting expensive

Perhaps the demand for large volumes of Lithium from car manufacturers is pushing up prices.......

Are these 'non original' batteries any good? I use DeWalt kit and am very tempted with the non-gen battery prices...........

Has anyone rebuilt a battery pack with separate batteries ? I have a DeWalt NiMh drill that is now only used in the workshop, with a battery that only holds charge for ten minutes. Got as far as removing the casing and noting the connections, I decided I needed a much bigger soldering iron, before putting it aside inn the rainy day jobs pile....

I've been using copy Makita batteries for 18months now, had no bother in that time on a drill, grinder and 1/2" impact gun. Did have to modify a bit of the battery casing to go on one of my genuine charger docks, just grind a plastic moulding to let it slot in.

i use non genuine batteries and theyre fine, the makita ones generally have the same panasonic cells inside, so nothing lost. if you have an issue with warranty own 1 gen battery you can send the serial no with if they ask it. but generally they're 1/4 the price for the same battery.

I use non genuine Hitachi batteries without too many issues. They’re a bit sticky sliding in and out of the drill/grinder/rattle gun but at those prices I’ll live with it.
we tend not to spend too much on power tools because they’re out fencing 90% of the time and don’t get cared for quite how the should.
Hitachi suit us very well.

Any advice on sliding hammers? Could use one but not looking on spending very much.

Just make one if your not going to use it alot, bit of big threaded bar, a few nuts, and a piece of big round bar with a hole in it as the weight.

Ive got one that my dad made years ago, and a sykes pickavant one. The proper one hardly gets used because it has a fine thread on the end of it, so when i need to make an adapter from that to something else i can never find a nut that fits it.

Yeah I know, but I only remember I should make when I need it, and then I don't. So the cycle continues.
Perfect excuse for you to buy a lathe.
You’ll start looking for projects to make once you have one.

Then of course, once you have the lathe you’ll want to add a milling machine.. machines...

radial arm drill...

cylindrical grinder...

surface grinder...

another couple of cylindrical grinders...

slot cutter...

maybe a bigger lathe, or a smaller one if you have a larger one...

surface plate...

auto collimator...

scrapers and straight edges...
maybe a vertical borer for the hell of it.

then you’ll need a bigger shed too...

Tooling. Don't forget the tooling.

Yes... that can give hours of pleasure sourcing that too...

I was after a collet Chuck for my wee Chipmaster, saw a good one on faceboke yesterday, but by the time I got back to it, it was gone.
The pain of the loss was almost unbearable :shy:

(That looks kind of like a distraught face, but not entirely sure)

When I said excuse, I actually meant valid reason
